Re: How I keep track of how much it cost to charge.

I would also caution against running a high current load through a cheap Chinese smartplug.
The car maintains a long term power efficiency number, which is in my experience is fairly accurate. You can easily calculate your costs from it.
BTW, charging on L1 is less efficient compared to L2.

Re: How important is Drive/Park Assist?

IIRC you can't get the back up camera without the park assistant on the older years. I had the park assistant on a 2015 I leased and never used it because it was known to curb the rims. i3 is incredibly easy to park thanks to the tight turn radius and short overhangs. I doubt the system will present...

Re: 2014 i3 getting only ~40 miles on full charge

I have to say that the 3.8m/kwh figure for a careful driving is rather low. When I had a REX I averaged 4.1 year around, and I live in MD with a relatively cold winter.

Re: Ohio EV tax

Paid chargers are already more expensive than charging at home (at least where I live). In fact, they are more expensive than a gas for REX.

Re: Ohio EV tax

I am retired and, on average, drive 2000 miles a year. For an ICE vehicle: 2000 miles divided by 30 mpg = 66,6 times $.387 per gallon tax = $25.77 annual state tax Yep, that tax is unfair to you. A mileage and weight (or miles/kwh) taxation is cumbersome to implement. A trend it seems; http://www.n...

Re: Ohio EV tax

Please reread my original post, The $200 tax is only for EVs, not ICE vehicles. The state gas tax will increase by 10 cents per gallon over 2 years. If I owned an ICE vehicle that achieved 30mpg, my state gas tax would be a total of $26 a year for my current annual mileage. So $200 a year is rather...

Re: leaving i3 rex overnight with low battery

I completely agree about the long term storage- self discharge and periodic wake ups would eventually drain the battery, but the question was about an overnight delay. Charging before departure in a cold weather is preferable because it will warm up the battery.

Re: leaving i3 rex overnight with low battery

I was under the impression that a low SOC is better for the battery health than a high SOC. A long term low SOC storage will eventually discharge the battery to dangerous level, but overnight should be fine. I usually charge before the departure rather than on arrival.

Re: My BMW i3 Saved My Life

Glad it ended relatively well. I'm not sure any ACC applies maximum brakes. On the forum for my other car, which has away better radar ACC I read about an accident that was very similar.
Does i3 preload the brake pedal when ACC senses that a strong braking may be needed?
