What is the function of Battery Safety box 61278648904 ? Is it just a relay box?

Hi all,

I was considering buying a Nissan leaf but recently I am getting fascinated by the I3. However I am not too familiar with the technology as compare to the Leaf.

So the "Battery safety box" inside the battery pack, is it a relay box just like the one in the Leaf battery pack or it serves other purposes?

If you haven't done so, download and read the i3 manuals from v12.dyndns.org/BMW/BMW%20I3/. Lots of good information there.
