Hay guys.

I'm a new member of I3 Forum live in South- Korea.

My i3 SOL+ was manufactured Oct. 2015 and start running June. 2016.

Since 5 months ago, some noise has been happened at the rear side.
At first, i just thought that the noise caused by cold weather under -4 Celsius.
However, recent is spring season that very worm, but unpleasant noise still evoked.

Especially, When departing situation like perfectly stop and acceling (When the motor start to moving) the sound like when moving seesaw or swings, some like metallic friction?!?!

Due to this sound i upgrade my i3 software at BMW- technician center and check the car. but they didn't solve the problem. Wonder if the sound caused by motor mount bolt, So i request to change it. but they rejected my claim.

In south korea case, BMW i3 not much sold that definitely shortage of i3 specialist technician. So, i have to prove those kind of things why it caused or which part having a problem.

so, please give some advice.

Thank you.

When you stop and then accelerate , have you used the friction brakes (Brake Pedal) or have you only used Brake Regen (Accelerator Pedal) . I suggest that you try both and see if there is a difference .

Do you usually use 'One Pedal Driving' whenever possible or do you still drive using the Brake pedal like before ?
Also , what is the 'SOC' (state of charge) of the traction battery when this occurs . There is a suggestion that when SOC is full the 'Regen' area
of the accelerator pedal will cause the friction brakes to engage .

Did you figure this out? I believe I have the same issue and the dealer was unable to locate the problem.

Not sure of the sound your describing but I recently noticed a noise in the rear end that is difficult to describe, almost like a subtle ratcheting sound. It only happens when I accelerate with some torque or when the regen kicks in. I put the car in neutral a few times and couldn't reproduce the sound when slowing down. Coincidentally I noticed it after I replaced the rear tires. I removed and reinstalled the rear wheels myself and very carefully using a rubber insert in the jack points so I don't think it's from that.

My noise definitely sounds like something in the drivetrain. I just got the car back from the dealer for some recalls, including the defective motor mount screws and a software update. I was hoping one of the screws was bad and was causing the noise. They thought the software update and reprogramming may have fixed it but I had my doubts since it seems to be drivetrain related. They said they test drove the car and couldn't reproduce the sound but I don't believe they did because the car was only driven about 2 miles while there. Would have been a very short drive if they did.

What I'm fearful of is this happened when I drove up a driveway that had a very short and steep incline while full of passengers which caused the car to bottom out, making a loud noise. Hoping it's not related to that though.

They offered to have an advisor ride with me so I could reproduce the sound, which I think I may do. I'll post an update if they are able to diagnose the issue.
