Hello, I am looking to buy a CPO i3. Please help understanding why the two following listings have 10K price difference. They seem to have essentially the same features and mileages.

Both: 2015 BMW i3 REX

$28,995 Mega 26,162mi
listing: https://cpo.bmwusa.com/certified/2015-BMW-i3-rex-WBY1Z4C54FV504358?zip=91770
carfax: https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory/p/Report.cfx?partner=SDT_0&vin=WBY1Z4C54FV504358

$18,887 Giga 24,762mi
listing: https://cpo.bmwusa.com/certified/2015-BMW-i3-rex-WBY1Z4C53FV504514?zip=91770
carfax: https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory/p/Report.cfx?partner=SDT_0&vin=WBY1Z4C53FV504514

Thanks!

There's nothing obvious that could explain the price difference other than a typo. I'm guessing that the Mega's price is actually $18,995 because $28,995 is way above the market price for a 2015 REx. The Giga model is a higher trim level with additional nice features like Comfort Access (no need to use the fob to lock/unlock the car) and a Universal Garage Door Opener, so it should have a somewhat higher price unless it is inferior cosmetically. Too bad that neither has the Tech Package (larger nav. screen with split-screen capability, adaptive cruise control, automatic collision avoidance braking, touch surface on the iDrive controller, etc.).

Thank you for checking. Yes, I am very puzzled too. It's probably some weird tactic the dealership is using.

Yeah, definitely seems like a typo.

A couple of other things to consider when you're shopping around (if these things are important to you) - absence of HOV sticker is a good sign - that means you might be eligible to apply for your own (which will be valid for a bit more than 3 years - until 01/01/2022). The rules don't allow the same vehicle to "renew" or get a new decal if it had one already assigned - but these cars are indeed eligible if they have not had one assigned ever. To be entirely certain, call DMV registrations department at (916) 657-8035 (call in the morning, they have a call-back feature so you won't have to wait on hold). They will be able to tell you by VIN if the car has already participated in HOV program. For what it's worth, all the details on the program are here.

Second thing worth checking is wether or not the PG&E $500 incentive has already been claimed (similarly - every car of this model is eligible, but only once). To check call PG&E at (877) 704-8723 (assuming power is delivered to you by PG&E). Again, they'll be able to check by VIN. Full details are here.

Good luck in your search!

I think they made pricing errors with the Mega - that is waay above normal pricing...maybe call in to check on that...

Also, if it is important to you - read up on the updates on the CA HOV rules - not sure how it would impact you if one had it and the other didnt....

If you can, shop around - there are pretty good deals out to be found - $19K for a 2015 i3 BEV, with only the parking package with 24-26K miles sounds high....I haven't been in the market for a while, but feels like that should be more around 17K...
