Turbine wheel tyre choices and sizing

Sat Mar 16, 2019 9:42 am

Hi all,

I have 19” turbine style wheels and currently have 175/60/r19 Bridgstone tyres that need replacing.

All the online forms suggest my tyre size should be 155/70/r19 tyres. Tyre price and available option vary a lot depending on the size, what width and profile options will work on the turbine wheels?

Thanks in advance!

I have a set of winters wheels with Bridgestone 155/70 R 19 tires that I recently purchased. I looked for the 175's but nothing is coming up other than the 155's in the Bridgestone line in 19" in all season and winter sizes.

I find these 19's are quite skinny compared to my 20" summer tires.

To date, only Bridgestone makes tires of the size and low rolling resistance property needed by an i3. The base BEV model with the 427 pizza slice wheels had 155/70/r19 tires mounted both front and rear. Some online tire Websites seem to suggest that this is the situation for all i3's whereas all but the BEV model with 427 wheels use 175/60/r19 tires on the rear.

Bridgestone did offer both all-season (Ecopia EP500) and summer tires (Ecopia EP600) in 175/60/r19 in the U.S. with the all-season version being what BMW installed originally in the U.S.

For the best driving range (i.e., the lowest rolling resistance), the i3 tire choice is limited to the Bridgestone Ecopia.

For winter tires, Nokian makes a set that are designed for the i3. Other than that, I've not found any other tires that fit or are designed for low rolling resistance.

All you need to know about i3 wheels from Tom Moloughney (does not include the i3S):
