Re: Brake fluid replacement

Maybe, but is it worth the savings? Cost is less than $100 done at a BMW dealership, and probably less elsewhere. I think you'll find that the cap on the reservoir tends to let air in, but not out easily, so heating up the fluid to drive off moisture, at least in a non-track situation, probably isn...

Re: Brake fluid replacement

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means that it absorbs water from the air. Estimates are that it absorbs 2-3% water per year. Does it make any difference if the year-round climate has an average humidity well over 50% (most of the eastern US) as compared to the Sonoran desert surrounding Phoenix w...

Air conditioning failed

My 2014 i3 BEV just had to have the AC recharged. No leaks found, and the cause was attributed to normal seasonal losses. I normally drive a car around 10 years, and very rarely have I ever needed AC repairs/recharges. Did I happen to get the odd BMW i3 AC unit that is incapable of holding a charge ...

Re: Cost of a vehicle wrap?

Frank Naber, BASF’s Account Manager for BMW Europe: “Our laboratory teams joined forces with the BMW Group to develop a coating for the special construction of the i3." Sure sounds like very typical marketing hype to me. The article makes no mention of what is "special" and it could simply be the c...

Re: A Bolt owner has i3 regrets sometimes

I had pre-paid a lot of the lease up front, so some of that was likely pre-payment credit. If you mean multiple security deposits, yes you get that back. MSDs are a little known feature of BMW FS leases that reduce the interest rate in exchange for putting in a larger security deposit. The security...

Re: A Bolt owner has i3 regrets sometimes

Does anyone have an explanation as to why BMW makes it prohibitive for the original lessee to buy the residual, but then puts them out on auction, where they often end up retailing for much less than the residual? jack vines At the end of my 2014 i3's 30 month lease last August, my residual was $29...

Re: The pains of finding wiper blades for the i3.

... If your i3 does not have the Technology Package (Adaptive Cruise Control), then don't worry about that, as the 28-inch wipers clear a plenty big enough sight area, and also cover the auto wiper sensor. ... Just a nit, but I think the auto-wipe sensing is done with a microphone listening for rai...

Re: Final service visit of our maintenance plan

On the other hand, when my 12V battery started going bad 2 months past warranty, my dealer quoted me almost $300 to replace, but when I went in to pick up the car, they told me BMW picked up the replacement under warranty.

Re: LED light door handles not working nor blue interior lights.

I keep hearing that people's i3's have interior lights that are blue and light up door handles, but I've never seen that on mine. What am I missing? I have a 2016 with Deka World and Parking Assist Package. The door handles physically do have LED lights as I can see them on there underneath but I'v...

i3 12V battery replaced

I started getting frequent battery discharging notices on the display when starting the car. Figured out it was the 12V AGM battery. I called my BMW Center for a price on the replacement battery for my barely over 4 year old i3. They quoted me $365 parts and labor, and confirmed it was out of warran...
