Re: Air conditioning failed

I came here to put my name into the ring, in case this ever becomes a class action. 2015 BEV with 35,000 kilometers. I've owned the car for a little over 2 years. It was bought used from a BMW dealership just out of its 4 year warranty, CPO not offered. The AC failed in winter 2021, and the car thr...

Re: Edmunds TCO - Fact or Fiction?

Since battery was damaged you could have pushed for battery warranty. But unless it is not a common failure the manufacturer doesn't have an obligation to cover every single occurrence. There is some risk with purchasing any car (including Mach e), the only way to completely mitigate it is to purch...

Re: Edmunds TCO - Fact or Fiction?

How many $23,000 repair bills at 5 years old (e.g., my i3) does it take to bring the average up to this level? Was yours one of those ones where the AC failed and contaminated the battery with metal shards and what not? :( (Answering eXodus, too.) My then 5 year old 2014 i3 BEV had the AC go out an...

Re: Which versions of the AC compressor have people had failures with?

So , do all new cars come with variable speed compressors, or is this a EV thing ? Most EVs and hybrids use variable speed all electric compressors, because they already have the high voltage battery. With a high voltage power source, this is the most efficient way to provide AC to a vehicle. It al...

Re: Edmunds TCO - Fact or Fiction?

If you don't have a catastrophic failure you will never spend $13k for an i3 in maintenance and repairs for 5 years. That must be for a regular ICE BMW - there I see no issue in loosing that much money since it's a BMW (Bring My Wallet) How many $23,000 repair bills at 5 years old (e.g., my i3) doe...

Re: Which versions of the AC compressor have people had failures with?

... debating picking up a 2017 or newer model if this AC issue has been resolved. Funny that I heard from another i3 owner in CA that had the AC failure on his '14 i3 just this morning! His was repaired under warranty, but he was sure to get rid of the car before the warranty ran out. Mine was a ye...

Re: Which versions of the AC compressor have people had failures with?

How difficult would it be to install a screen after the compressor to protect the rest of the system? https://airsept.com/Products/Details/32 I'm not an expert, but from the many experts I have talked to, the i3 AC issue is the compressor self destructing, taking out everything downstream. This Air...

Re: Air conditioning failed

Same thing with my AC. Same quote from, possibly, the same dealer service department. Had to pay $542 just to pick up my car and they did a semi-car wash. I think this is their standard quote for any AC failure. They didn't offer me anything on a new car trade in, so maybe mine's worse? Forgot to m...

Re: Which versions of the AC compressor have people had failures with?

I'm also in Phoenix, my AC never was really good when I bought it from the Dealer in Chandler, but now it was only blowing hot air. Took it to the dealer. Long story short, quote to fix air conditioner, brake service and two new tires was $23K. Compressor supposedly shredded apart causing metal sha...

Was shocked at the initial quote - we are in negotiations
Please post back with the initial quote amount, and the final negotiated cost for repair of the compressor. My quote did not separate the labor for the compressor, so I have little idea what the compressor job alone costs.
