Re: Problem with roof peeling

The clear resin layer pealing off of a CFRP roof has been reported by several i3 owners. It's apparently also happening to some BMW M cars that have CFRP roofs. However, photos I've seen of other peeling roofs don't look like yours. Bubbling seems to be common but no large wrinkles like yours. This ...

Re: 2021 i3 backup camera no lines?

On our 2014 i3 which has an earlier iDrive version than yours, guidance lines can be turned off and on in iDrive. Can't imagine that BMW would have removed that capability in later i3's.

Re: i3 HV Battery Upgrade

I would be interested in the 90kW to increase range to 300+ miles. Question is this being a lighter car how come this car has same range (for the same size battery) than a heavier car. Is it something to do with how they manage it. A 90 kWh (not kW which is power, not energy) battery would be extre...

Re: Swapping Trim?

I have been in this situation recently. If I found a nice 2018 or 2019 Giga BEV, I'd consider replacing our 2014 Giga BEV. However, most newer U.S. i3's seem to have Deka World trim. Deka World differs from Giga and Tera Worlds by not only upholstery and dashboard trim, but also some content like so...

Re: Considering 2016 i3 REX GIGA w. tech package

The REx engine air filter cannot be replaced without replacing the entire engine air inlet because the filter is sealed inside and not designed to be replaced, so hopefully your repair estimate doesn't include this replacement. As the owner of a 2014 BEV whose battery pack has lost ~23% of its usabl...

Re: I took my 2014 i3 in for a battery capacity check and BMW added capacity to my battery

Please let us know how your usable capacity changes during the next few months. If it drops back down to near what it was, that would be evidence that BMW has rigged the capacity test to minimize its liability to replace degraded packs.

Re: Battery kappa

Actually I do get less range charging on 120v. I have tested it leaving it on the charger for 3 days. When you write that you get less range, I assume you mean that the range prediction rather than the actual range might have been less. The range prediction varies for all sorts of reasons so isn't ...

Re: Battery kappa

Mine is at 13.2. How bad is that and how bad does it have to be for bmw to replace the battery under warranty? The usable capacity is guaranteed to be at least 70% of the new usable capacity of 18.8 kWh which would be ~13.2 kWh. The usable capacity of your battery pack might be near that limit, but...

Re: Charging after changing the 12V battery

The 12V battery is brand new and I checked the charge before installing to be sure. It was over 12V so I think we are good there. 12.0 V is a very low charge level for an AGM battery. The voltage at full charge is ~12.8 V. Many "new" batteries have been sitting on a warehouse shelf for several mont...

Re: Battery kappa

"Batt. Kapa. max" is the German abbreviation for the maximum usable battery pack capacity. It is only a calculated estimate of the capacity that can vary with temperature and other factors, so any single measurement should not be considered accurate. Multiple measurements over a period of time incre...
