Re: End of production

gt1, your instincts are correct – no BMW dealer will be able to give you worthwhile information about upcoming product line changes! :D The last bump to the battery was to 42 kWh for the 2019 model year. If you think of an i3 as a city car (which I do) it's a well thought-out machine, which makes on...

Re: I3 not following delayed off-peak charging

by Beardsley » Wed Apr 07, 2021 4:40 pm Other than that the car drives great. I will be sad to see sales of the i3 go away. Thinking of a new Galvanic Gold i3s. Galvanic Gold is the best i3 color since Solar Orange! Regarding forcing the i3 to low-cost charge between specific hours, I've found that...

Re: Welcome to the BMW i3 Forum

longwaytim – From the i3's launch in 2014 (late-2013 in the EU) there have been two major battery upgrades. A good browse of Wikipedia will answer many questions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_i3 That said, (and as a BEV owner, the below apply to battery-only i3 cars, not REx models) here are th...

Re: BMW i3 vs. Chevy Bolt -- Structural Efficiency ?

Manufacturers list their vehicles' weights and magazines quote them. Shortly after I purchased my 2014 i3 BEV I took it to a truck scale. With minimal user-added detritus (and NO driver), my 2014 i3 BEV weighed 2,880 lbs. My opinion... I think BMW's claims of a sub-2,700 lb. curb weight were enabled...

Re: Driver/Passenger position in the car + different seats

eXodus – The two pictures you posted were taken with very different lenses. The E46 picture looks to have been taken with a telephoto lens which tends to flatten the distances between objects in the image (steering wheel-to-seat). The i01 picture looks to have been taken with a very wide-angle lens ...

Re: Lumbar support option?

Find a high-quality aftermarket automotive upholsterer in your area.

A proper shop will be able to install an inflatable lumbar support.

Re: DEAD I3 $10,000 PROBLEM

MKH is correct... when changing the auxiliary 12V battery, it should be fully charged before installing. Are you the original owner of your car? If so, (and particularly if you have owned other BMWs before) making contact with BMW NA and expressing your concerns may be helpful. They are aware of an ...

Re: Should I reverse coding before taking it into BMW for service?

My 2014 i3 BEV has been extensively coded since 2016. My dealer is one of the top three selling dealerships in the US. I've never reverted coding when bringing my i3 in for service and the dealer has never once mentioned a concern with my car having been coded. They've even advocated for (and BMW NA...

Re: Question from Newbie

Hey Friction, thanks for the link to the long-form article about REx function/limitations. In all of my research I had never heard about the Class Action lawsuit. The article is very well written, and is actually reassuring to someone who lives and will be driving in the Low Country of Georgia (fla...

Re: Things I Dislike About My i3

3) The steering is very poor which makes the handling when driving fast unpredictable. How BMW got this so badly wrong I have no idea. Hello, GuyD – Having owned BMWs for more than 20 years, I've found the i3 to be one of BMW's best in terms of steering. Early on, I did have a problem with the stee...
