Re: Third One's A Keeper

Great post, stumbledotcom, HK sound is a must! With your 2021/05/27 build date, yes, I think yours is very close to the chip-shortage induced cutoff of the HK option for US-production i3 models. Very interesting that you negotiated the removal of the LCI silver highlights – I had no idea they were j...

Re: new I3 REX owner. some questions. sorry.

Hello gqpixel, and welcome to the forum!
will try to unlock the codes soon. any other cool unlocks?

It's a VERY long thread, but this is a good starting point to learn about coding your i3 REx.

Re: Weird AC Sound from 2018 i3s BEV

It definitely sounds like either some debris caught in the fan or a bearing issue. I would think that if debris (like a leaf) was caught in the fan, the debris wouldn't last long with constant abuse from the blades. A failing bearing seems much more likely. Please share what you hear back from your ...

Re: Dashboard controls

stumbledotcom – We're on the same page then. Yes, when in AUTO the i3 handles where the air is allocated with the driver getting to choose only temperature and their suggestion for fan speed. For getting the most airflow from face-level vents, I've found that non-AUTO face-level mode, with recircula...

JTY –

Glad to hear that the motor swap cured your problem!

I watched most of the video and I didn't hear anything unusual – can you recommend a good time in the clip where the noise happens?

Re: Looking to buy a BMW i3 and need advice

In the press releases for the i3S rollout in 2018, BMW made as cryptic reference to new tapered roller bearings allowing to eeke a bit more performance from the drivetrain. No relevant parts numbers changed, the motor and gearbox port numbers are interchangable between the non-S and S, so whatever ...

Re: Dashboard controls

Hello stumbledotcom – Your message suggests that pressing the left or right sides of the fan speed button while in AUTO mode does not affect fan speed. In 7+ years of driving i3s, I can confirm that when in AUTO mode, fan speed is higher with all fan-speed LEDs illuminated compared to having just on...

JTY –

"better bearings in the motor"?

Having owned i3s since 2014 I've never heard motor bearings brought up as an issue with the design.

BMW did have a service action (soft recall) for motor mounts that might fail. Could this be what you're referring to?

Re: Stop locking the doors!

Your posts are always spot-on. That said, after a bit of searching I cannot find a link stating that automatic door-locking is mandated in the US.

Could you please share a link to a supporting page?

Thanks!
