Re: Fed up with my 94ah REX - 6 weeks!!

Diesels have had their day. If you think the depreciation on a i3 REx is bad, buy a new Euro 6 compliant car and watch its residual value plummet. You can't compare the i3 to other cars you've had. In some ways it's a compromise. It will never have the handling of a turbo diesel. I used to run an A4...

Re: Poor REX Mpg on motorway

You're expecting way too much from your i3 REx. It's not a hybrid in the tradional sense. It's electric with a back up petrol engine, rather than petrol with kick in electric. Ideally you want to find a charging point, or preset the car so you maintain a reserve of electric charge.

Re: Bought i3 94 ah REX - ADVICE

My wife has 2015 65 plate 60Ah REx. Great car, leather, turbine alloys, larger screen, park assist, even electric sunroof. As you say, keep an eye out for drivetrain errors if it happens during your first year of ownership, then straight back to BMW and make sure it's logged. We had what was left of...

Corrosion on oil filter housing

Changing the oil on my wife's 2015 i3 REx, I noticed there's the development of surface corrosion where the oil filter screws in. I managed to bend a Draper oil filter tool trying to remove it - it felt that tight, so switched to wide angle locking claw grips which did the trick. Probably due to the...

Re: Torn dust cover - shock absorber

I got this done under BMW's 3-year warranty, so should be good for another 2-3 years. One word of warning, and this not related to the shock dust sleeve. Use a little grease on the wheel studs. I changed the car's 428 diamond cut wheels to 427 alloys and winter tyres the other week and the studs wer...

Re: Servicing i3 REx

Any information on spark plug diy replacement? I can't find anything Parts here: https://parts.bmwmonterey.com/a/BMW__i3-Rex/50945778__6214927/Ignition-coilspark-plug/12_1837.html#02 It doesn't specify interval time, but as i3 REx is a hybrid, I suspect it's only if it throws up an error or 100k mi...

Re: Servicing i3 REx

So today was meant to be straight forward. Swap the 428 turbine wheels and fit 427 alloys with winter tyres. F/N/S locking wheel bolt was fixed tight. The rest of the bolts cracked when realised. I used PlusGas and hammered the thread to shock it. Ended up shearing a Draper 1/2" extension bar as I t...

Thank you MKH, that's very helpful.

Take it this is a lease car? I haven't used car washes in about 30 years. The next time you car is under fluorescent lighting... you'll cry.

Re: Servicing i3 REx

So picked up pollen filter, oil filter and sump plug (£64) at the weekend along with new 427 wheels and Bridgestone Blizzak winter tyres. I'll change the 428 Turbines next weekend when I service the car. I asked about oil (£22 a litre at BMW stealer), sorry but given I'd paid a fortune on wheels, i ...
