Re: My i3 Got T-Boned

For posterity who might encounter a similar unfortunate incident-- My i3 has now been sitting in a Houston-area, BMW-authorized repair center for more than 3 weeks with no repairs. It took 3 adjusters from Geico to decide that the car was worth repairing vs totaling. Their 3rd party valuation compan...

Re: My i3 Got T-Boned

New update; the body shop is saying they have to repair the carbon fiber frame in at least two places and that the current estimate is $12,500+ but that they’re waiting on an adjuster.

Anybody have any experience repairing the frame? This is now turning into a worst case scenario!

Re: My i3 Got T-Boned

Thanks guys. I had the i3 towed to the closest BMW-certified body shop. So far, they don't think it's that bad! They think it's the best case scenario with just replacing the door panel and the rear quarter panel plus fitting a new tire. They think it will take 5 business days and cost the insurance...

My i3 Got T-Boned

Over the holiday weekend in broad day light on a one-way road, some unlicensed teenager decided to come out of a side street and hit my 2017 i3 REX in the driver's side. This happened in front of a busy restaurant so there were tons of witnesses, and the police responded and cited the driver for a n...

Re: REX Reduced Power Mode

I think your opinion is completely valid, and I mostly agree. The i3 is a fantastic city car, and had I a need for a single car that could do it all - including regular 150+ mile road trips - I would've stuck with a Volt. But as it is, I drive less than 5k miles a year, and this trip was spontaneous...

Re: REX Reduced Power Mode

Thanks, I thought it looked weird when I typed 90ah - anyhow, I'm glad BMW is switching to the industry standard of quoting in kWh instead. I just downloaded the app and ordered a vgate. Maybe I will try another road trip in a couple of weeks... But I have to admit, I can see why the 2016 class-acti...

REX Reduced Power Mode

Yesterday I took my 2017 i3 REX 94ah for an impromptu road trip from Houston to Austin, Texas. The drive is about 160 miles one way and includes both interstate and highways with speed limits as high as 75 mph. The highway becomes very hilly about 60 miles south of Austin, which is also when my batt...
