Re: Air conditioning failed

Because the A/C cools the battery pack, the output power of the battery pack would almost certainly be limited due to overheating due to a non-functional compressor. This would significantly limit the maximum power of the propulsion motor. I could be wrong, but I thought the battery is only activel...

Re: Dead Battery and other problems

Apparently people are now reporting the battery if bought directly from East Penn has gone up about $100 to $220. I've read that Remy has raised its price for the AUX18L significantly, essentially to that of a BMW dealer, but I have not read that East Penn has raised its price similarly. Have you c...

Re: Dead Battery and other problems

I love the way you posted this info! Awesome format gets to the point. Thorough and concise. Wanted to add some info too that some may find useful. I just got off the phone with BMW of Concord, CA and they quoted me some outrageous prices: 12v 20ah battery: $235 + tax and requires a trade-in of the...

Re: Vinegar smell from HVAC

Could just be mold/mildew from A/C system. Easy fix, just spray something like Lysol in cabin air intake, usually clears it up. My cars will do this sometimes and to try and prevent it I will sometimes (when I remember) turn off the a/c a minute or two before I get home so the system can dry out bef...

Re: 12 volt battery depleted

I replaced mine proactively a couple of months ago, it's not that hard to do. Some people have had issues after replacing it like the car throwing error codes and it seems this is because if you don't charge the battery before replacing, if it's discharged when you install it, it could be a problem....

Re: Battery maintenance

The closer you can keep the battery at 50% when not in use, the better it is for it in the long run, it's the way Li-ion batteries are.

Re: Save money on your brake fluid, air filters and oil change by doing it yourself!

FWIW, I bought a pressure bleeder from ECS Tuning awhile ago, but the cap they provide for my two BMWs would not make a good seal, and when the tank was pressurized, it leaked all out and on the vehicle...I do not know if they've changed the design. The bottle itself holds pressure fine, but it's t...

Re: Save money on your brake fluid, air filters and oil change by doing it yourself!

Sorry I meant specifically in relation to the i3 but I understand what you’re saying. I do test the ABS as a matter of course after working on the brakes. That “actuates” them. Good enough for me (especially on a 3 year-old car). Here are few links for the procedure. The first is the i3, and the ot...

Re: New transmission required

I think a transmission failure in the i3 is very rare, I wonder if it was the transmission mounting bolts or the the transmission bracket that broke, that's much more common?

Re: Dead Battery and other problems

Turns out the new battery has to be registerd with the car. I have no idea why this is necessary. So, now I have to make a trip to the dealer so they can tell the car a new battery is in there. Don't know what they will charge, but my expectation is that it will be way more that I think it is worth...
