Re: Will a 2019 non-REX reliably do 120-140 miles round trip?

If you’re talking about the base model, the BEV should easily handle it. I’ve got a 2021 BEV base which has the same 120Ah battery pack. I routinely see 150+ miles total range on trips out of the city where I can let the ACC handle things in Eco Pro without a lot of stopping. Even in SF with the ext...

Re: BMW ix and i4

Both are too large for me. The i4 comes closest of course but it’s also so predictable and boring.

Re: Do you have a Wallbox charger at home, or why not?

I agree about the improved resale value. But I'm also married to the board president so I know our situation is more complex than pulling wire and figuring out a billing scheme for power usage. The three-story underground structure is built with post-tension concrete. Drilling for larger conduit req...

Re: Do you have a Wallbox charger at home, or why not?

No. I live in a large condo complex with an underground garage. The space we use for the i3 is three levels down. When I got my first 2014, I looked at several charging solutions. The cheapest estimate was $8,500 to reuse existing conduit and upgrade a nearby 120v outlet to provide something between...

Re: BMW Connected drive 3G to 4G?

GM's Onstar was a Over The Air upgrade to support 4G. Why put in non upgradable hardware in BMWs? Yeah, makes no sense at all, since AT&T is the provider for both GM's Onstar, and BMW's Assist in the USA. I wouldn't hold up OnStar as an example of great service. I had a 2004 VW Touareg with OnS...

Re: BMW 2021 change to instrument light colours?

I believe the base Atelier/Deka only has the Modern ambient lighting. Loft/Mega, Lodge/Giga, and Suite/Tera add the option to toggle between Modern and Classic along with the blue welcome effect and exterior door handle lights. The dark Suite/Tera adds additional lights at the door handles and pocke...

Re: I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

I would think that one would be able to subscribe to real-time traffic information with an updated telematics module unless that service is now bundled with other services that require newer hardware or iDrive. Basic traffic information is transmitted via FM. My 2009 E90 still shows traffic alerts ...

Re: I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

In the 2G to 3G upgrade, BMW offered those who didn't want the upgrade a $200 gift card for the BMW catalog, if I remember the amount right. I suspect this go-round, that those with existing years left on their no longer accessible Connected Drive subscriptions will get a similar pro-rated gift car...

Re: Used i3 buyers guide

I wholeheartedly disagree (and I'm sure most i3 owners are with me) that the interior is, in fact, ahead of its time. Granted there's no Android Auto, Apple Carplay took far too long to appear, but iDrive 5 is reasonably capable and iDrive 6 even though it's a generation old is the most useable in-...

Re: New i3S Rex available in SW Ohio

The car has been de-contented since the early years to save money. The standard radio in my new i3 no longer receives FM HD stations, for example. That’s odd. The 2021 standard features listed HD Radio with multicast FM station reception. The function is turned off by default. When FM is active, pr...
