Re: Considering 2016 i3 REX GIGA w. tech package

Something else to consider when buying an i3 is that all pre-2017 and part of 2017 MY models have only 3G cell connectivity Yeah, good thing to note, though BMW's connected service is pretty basic. Lets you remote change and start preconditioning (cool or warn the car before your departure), though...

Re: Considering 2016 i3 REX GIGA w. tech package

Sandia BMW has a great rep - and will have an i3 certified mechanic if you want a 2nd opinion - and when they plug the car into BMW's service system, it will give readouts on exactly what is going on with the car. As well, they can show you all the car's BMW service records. And as far as range - de...

Re: Considering 2016 i3 REX GIGA w. tech package

You need to take the car to a shop that is familiar with the i3. They are giving you info that is nonsense. The Rex warning you are getting is NORMAL. The Rex engine runs an automatic maintenance cycle for 10 minutes every five-six weeks or so. To do that cycle, the battery has to be less than 75% c...

Re: What should I ask for my 2018 BMW i3 w/ REX

I imagine it's a bit of a sliding scale. The former CarMax guy I talked to was quoting an average $4K 'markup' in the $20K - $30K range that they sold the bulk of their cars at. According to him, actual profit after reconditioning and selling expenses ran around half, $2K . CarMax's quarterly report...

Re: End of production

While i understand what you mean, My thought would would be opposite - in general , people purchasing luxury brands are less likely to to buy a used car . and since many of them are rich enough , not to need to lease...it either. Many are retired old people with money People with money are wise , n...

Re: What should I ask for my 2018 BMW i3 w/ REX

I got a CarMax quote for 22,600, so Private Party should sell above that easily. Unless their markup has changed in the last few years or because of the current chip-shortage driven market, shortages, a former CarMax employee said that the average markup they put on a vehicle they buy to resell and...

Need more info. Location? Trim level? Wheel size/style. Options? HK? Large Nav? Apple Carplay?

For a quick sale, Carvana has been offering pretty good $$$.

Re: Checking Battery Health for Used i3

The nominal new usable capacity is 18.8 kWh, so 14.2 kWh suggests a 25% usable capacity loss which isn't very good Not sure how much I trust battery kappa readings. After a month or more of daily short trips (15 miles), with no preconditioning set or used, recharging daily or every two days, was se...

Re: Air conditioning failed

I'd pay to have only a new compressor installed but nothing more Add in replacing the AC condenser - parts cost is around $400 (the radiator thing in the front). From my retired AC mechanic neighbor, the flow channels in the condenser are so small, they will have trapped most of the shrapnel from a...
