Re: Drivetrain malfuntion error with 12v discharged, start engine message.

Thanks Art! I agree the age of the battery was probably a contributing factor. After tring a few scanners that wouldnt connect, I tried the BimmerLink app, which worked and cleared the codes, and now the car works fine! Wasnt easy though, as the car kept trying to turn off as I ran bimmerlink! I wil...

Re: Drivetrain malfuntion error with 12v discharged, start engine message.

The obd fusion app says that it IS communicating with the scan tool plugged into the i3 but is unable to connect to the vehicle. It tries a whole bunch of communication protocalls before giving up .

Drivetrain malfuntion error with 12v discharged, start engine message.

My car was working fine despite having the original 12v battery. (I have one on order, I swear!) I had the HV battery disconnect switch off to take a look at some scuffing through the stainless steel wire braiding that protects the cables between the HV battery EME. I futzed around off and on for a ...

Re: Trunk weight limit

Surely the no suitcase sticker means no storage beneath the cover and not "this will not support a suitcase" I wouldn't drop a big rock on it, but I wouldn't hold back on loading it up. It should flex before it fails and I haven't seen that happen. Having all it's fasteners tight should help it's st...

Re: Water wheel charger?

It should work! Clearly, no one knows what to say at this point, but if you build it, and take pictures, I am sure we will all cheer you!

Re: Off Road in i3

"Trials" cars are built for off road obstacle courses and have tall narrow tires and rear wheel drive. The I3's 50/50 weight balance is not optimal for getting traction out of 2wd, but it's still better than a 2wd pickup that has less than half its weight on the drive wheels.

Re: Parallel HV Battery for added range.

I have the I8 modules ready to test, but no where I need to drive, with the covid 19 shelter in place/ quarantine situation. I'm looking into what to do about the bms. i don't want to spend $1200 on a orion system that can handle 96s. As long as I can keep all the cells balanced, I don't need to wor...

Re: Parallel HV Battery for added range.

Yes, there is a ton, er, many a cubic foot of unused space! For now I would like to be able to toss it out of the car if it burst into flames, but the longer i play with it the safer it seems. I have not decided if I want to put some of them where the rex would have gone or put them all back further...

Re: Parallel HV Battery for added range.

I typically can get 10 more miles range than it thinks I can. with a small auxiliary, it's hard to know how much of the range is due to frugal driving and how much is the weather and battery. It took me several days to use it up, doing mainly city driving. In fact, I gave up before running the batte...
