Re: Battery Replacement Under Warranty

Acura/Honda are notorious for avoiding warranty claims. For me, it was a bad transmission. There was a class-action against them and they paid-up on that on the condition that no further claims could be made after the case was settled. Unfortunately, my transmission broke after the class-action was ...

Re: Battery Replacement Under Warranty

Not surprising that your battery still has good charge since you've only driven 36k. My 2014 had about as much when it had that many miles on the odometer. Today, it's driven 59k miles and battery is at 14kwh kappa max. I'm hoping it goes down to 13kwh in the next year so I can get it replaced under...

Re: Battery Replacement Under Warranty

Someone on this thread was able to get his battery replaced. Not just a few modules but the whole battery pack. I'm showing 13.9 on kappa max and getting 57 miles maximum. On most occasions, overnight charging only gives me 50-55 miles. I'm waiting for maximum to drop to 54 miles or 13.2 kappa max b...

Re: Battery Replacement Under Warranty

Opposum, Our stats are pretty close. My 2014 i3 has about 56k miles on it and kappa max is 13.9kw. Pretty good that your dealer did the check and confirmed 72%. Max range I get under any scenario now is about 57 miles. When this drops to about 53/54 miles, I'll have the local dealer check the capaci...

Re: Battery capacity issue

Good points regarding Chargepoint. This further proves that my battery is degrading faster. My 2014 i3 is now 5 years old with about 48k miles driven. That's about 80% of original capacity. It degraded by about 5% per year in the last 3 years. In 2 years, it'll probably be down to 70%. I just hope B...

Re: Battery capacity issue

My home charger (Chargepoint) gives me the amount of KWH's that was transferred to my i3 during a charging session. Starting at an indicated range of 5 miles, Chargepoint said that about 15.5 kwh's were required to charge my car to 100%. That about matches what kappa.max indicates. I suppose 2nd sou...

Re: Battery capacity issue

Bob - The capacity dropped to 95% from 2014 to 2017 then to 80% from 2017 to 2018. I figure it'll drop to 70% by the end of 2019 or early 2020. I'm just wondering what I have to do to get BMW to honor the warranty. They seem to be fighting it. As more and more 2014's get older, I'm sure there will b...

Re: Battery capacity issue

Right, but I haven't seen a 71 mile range since 2017. My range at 100% charge has indicated between 52 miles and 65 miles since last Summer. Its been at about 52 and 61 miles this winter. Degradation seems to be accelerating. I'm wondering at what point I can take it to BMW to have the battery repla...

Battery Replacement Under Warranty

Does anyone know if BMW has actually replaced an i3 battery under warranty because capacity degraded below 70%? If so, can you share any links to this information? My 2014 i3 indicates a range of about 61 miles at 100%. Kappa Max indicates about 15kwh. Car is driven about 48 miles/day in N. Californ...
