Re: I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

That's very possible. I've actually thought about the phone comparison though as I just bought a brand new $200 phone (4G) for work. That's the out-the-door, unlocked price, not subsidized. If phones are hitting that price point then a 4G upgrade for a car's TCU should easily be within the $1k price...

Re: What can you do about the REX NOISE???

And now I'm wondering if anyone makes an aftermarket exhaust for the i3 with a 3" tailpipe for a "free-er flowing exhaust" (and more noise).

Re: My Virgin Charge Was a Nightmare!!!

I've read stories of nothing but frustration and failure at Harley dealerships. I'll second that. It makes one wonder just how "standard" the charge/communication protocol is, because reading through plugshare check-ins around me it seems like BMWs are more prone to communication failures preventin...

Re: Looking to buy a BMW i3 and need advice

Conventional wisdom is to avoid the first model year of a vehicle, so a 2015 would be preferable in that regard. The 2014 had a couple issues like the motor mount bolt that turned into a recall, but in theory the recall should have fixed that on any 2014s out there driving around. I have a 2014 and ...

Re: Carvana Mis-Listed my i3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I see they also fixed your "Passenger side (front/rear)". That's good. I hate it when my car's Passenger side (front/rear) is broken. Seriously though, I can't take any of those "# point inspections" seriously. I'm sure some are implemented as described, but I also know people who have been the one ...

Re: I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

I really don't think this is BMW's problem to solve, although they are providing a solution. I, too, request to see the solution BMW is providing because they explicitly said they opposite in their official notice. A decent phone cost $1000(US). This is a particularly good comparison to show BMW's ...

If anyone around Baltimore wants to help me experiment getting this to work in a 2014 BEV, message me.
I am not around Baltimore but I will definitely offer moral support and would also love to see the process!

Re: Carvana Mis-Listed my i3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It looks like they pulled the Monroney and listed the leather and 19"s, though for some reason they did delete the wood. Are you suggesting a used-car dealer is being less than forthright about one of the cars they're selling??? Let me get my fainting couch!!! Seriously though, I can't say I'...

Re: Maximum charge rate?

Even the new Chevy Bolt can't charge faster than 50kW right now either and other than that (and the current battery recall issue) they could be viable road trip cars for many typical situations. https://cleantechnica.com/2021/02/16/why-dont-the-2022-chevrolet-bolt-ev-euv-charge-faster/ Finding a non...

With the prevalence of Electrify America stops along my route, I selected EA as "preferred" in ABRP, justifying it because of the discount I bought into by paying for Pass+ membership. I'd really love to see Chargepoint or EVGo come on strong and begin filling in the gaps along established routes T...
