Re: Charge socket solenoid not a warranty item?!?!?

Good news! The dealership ran the scan tool diagnostics, and found that the solenoid would not move when commanded by the test routine. It is back in my driveway (and charging) again as I write this, and didn't cost me a dime other than for the scheduled services that I had requested while it was th...

Re: Breakdown of Maintenance prices?

In case it ever comes up in Trivial Pursuit, I just paid the dealership $329 (with tax) for the scheduled 2-year brake fluid change and checkup inspection on my 2015 BEV. I didn't mind paying, since it is a new-to-me car and having another set of eyes check it out was worth the money. They swapped o...

Re: Questions to ask the dealer

My anxiety issue is winter. It gets cold here. Will a 2016 battery give me enough leftover range after the cold? BTW, I don't blame the battery for not wanting to work in the winter. My understanding is that the BEV version uses a heat pump to make heat, whereas the REx model has the gasoline tank ...

Re: Remove/disable charging plug lock?

This is the part the guy in the UK video was installing. Available for $105 from a parts house in Denmark that sells and ships world wide. I know a lot of BMW owners in the U.S. who buy from them, as they have items not available in the U.S., and their prices are good. https://www.schmiedmann.com/e...

Re: Remove/disable charging plug lock?

Back to the topic of deleting the charging lock solenoid, my first thought was to just remove the part completely and 3D print a waterproof cap to cover the open mounting hole on the back of the socket to keep the rain out. I'm still learning BMW's wiring diagram conventions/quirks, but from what I ...

Re: The spam here is insane!

There do still seem to be some spammers getting through, which indicates they are manually registering the accounts. So, we can't really do anything else... unless someone else has another idea for us to try? 1) Throttle posts to one per minute per user, if the forum software allows. Makes cleanup ...

Re: Charge socket solenoid not a warranty item?!?!?

The only independent BMW specialist in the region that I would trust shut down about 10 years ago when the owner retired and moved south. I have 20+ years of experience in amateur motorsports, both as a driver and also as chair of multiple competition programs. My Rolodex (am I showing my age?) is f...

Re: Charge socket solenoid not a warranty item?!?!?

What I don't get, is the attitude of this Dealership :ugeek: BMW PAYS THEM FOR THE WARRANTY WORK THEY DO. Why bend themselves into a pretzel trying to deny what is obviously a warranty claim, and turn away money from BMW for doing the work? This is my first foray into the BMW ecosystem, but I suspe...

Re: New Owner Charging Questions

I'm still a bit confused as to whether or not this car will have a charger capable of level 2 charging but maybe that will become more apparent when I get the car. I asked the current owner and he just said he didn't know because he had never needed faster charging. Every i3 sold in the USA came wi...

Re: Remove/disable charging plug lock?

There are emergency releases for both the door and the charger plug lock, as illustrated in this BMW Hong Kong video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lIO8D3vruc I barely had the hand strength to pull the bottom blue knob out of the car, and it promptly snapped off of the cable. The Internet is full...
