Say what now?

Doesn't every i3 owner change only 2 tires at a time?

Re: Car unstable, jerking left and right, swerves

I don't know for sure if this is the culprit, but the 2017 (and perhaps other model years, I don't know) had a known power steering defect that was addressed with a software update in November 2019. Usually this fault manifests with the perceived loss of power steering in one direction only, and is ...

Re: Set a maximum charge limit

Interestingly, BMW has enabled a charging target — and specific guidance on extending the service life — of the high-voltage pack of its new flagship electric vehicle, the iX. Not only that, they have provided the owner the means to set the charging current as well (not just Max / Reduced / Min). S...

Re: BMW 2021 change to instrument light colours?

Just fair warning to proceed cautiously tampering with the pedestrian warning system. In the event of a pedestrian collision involving serious injury, death, or even just an insurance claim by the injured, if it's discovered that a mandated safety device has been defeated, it could result in lots of...

Re: BMW 2021 change to instrument light colours?

I haven't explored the parts diagrams to see if that particular light is optional or N/A -- perhaps another 2021 owner with Tera could pipe in? In the US the acoustic warning began being phased in in September 2019, and there is no option to turn it off. I've heard at various times it was optional o...

Re: BMW 2021 change to instrument light colours?

The color on the temp control knob changes based on the state of the headlights. That's true on all model years. It's white by day, orange by night. The 2021 has a setting for "classic" or "modern" (don't quote me exactly, it's something like that) for ambient lighting. In switching from my 2017 to ...

Re: "Insufficient Grid Power" error at beginning of charging

To see 260 volts isn't completely abnormal, but electrical specs suggests a range limit of 255 volts (+6%). You've got me wondering if "insufficient" is the word BMW chose to really mean "out of spec." This wouldn't necessarily be a J1772 specification or even an EVSE limit, but the charging hardwar...

Re: 39miles on full charge

What year? My former 2017 was showing 98 miles of range during my test drive but in reality was good for 135 miles. If yours is a 2016 or earlier there's a chance that between spirited test drives and the presumably cold weather weather where you are, this could be normal. I suggest driving it sensi...

Re: I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

The telematics box has commonality with a number of vehicles in the BMW lineup, so it's not as if they're facing a limited inventory of spare i3 parts sitting on a shelf in a warehouse. This box remains in production so the only supply shortage could be the temporary log jams felt by all in the auto...
