Detached Garage EVSE Installation for On-Street Parking...

I've previously posted about charging mainly at 120 volts (https://www.mybmwi3.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16598) and this is still my primary MO for the i3. However having recently added a Volkswagen ID.4 to the household, it was time for a dedicated L2 installation, something I've been putting off d...

Re: Front Windshield Camera Overheating

The i3 camera module is fairly small and metal bodied, but with no cooling fins. The metal body probably helps it shed heat to ambient when in use, but when parked probably collects heat. In any case, a small patch of reflective tint, or just a taped-on piece of aluminum foil as a test, is probably ...

Re: Front Windshield Camera Overheating

I haven't had an issue in the i3, but recently was installing a new mirror in our VW and couldn't help but notice how incredibly hot the camera unit was, the car having just come back from a drive but on a temperate day. Kind of impressive, really. Given the answer so far is "deal with it," have you...

Re: Tou calculation help.

My usage is much more spikey so higher tiers tended to hit me on certain days but not most days. So a much larger portion of your charging was at the higher tier rate. That means your savings by switching to TOU would be even greater. Yep, that's kind of my point. It's one thing to average out the ...

Re: Tou calculation help.

That assumes though that charging is done consistently every day, versus every few days as needed. Or that a Monday household usage looks the same as a Saturday.

Re: Visual differences between 33kw & 42kw i3

Checking the VIN is the only reliable method I know. The only visual telltale I know is the 2018 facelift, and as you're finding, that's not enough to tell the difference. I had a similar experience when searching for my 2017. A majority of ads listed the wrong battery size, so I relied on plugging ...

Re: Tou calculation help.

It seems to me that you've got it mostly figured out. You need to present what the daily electricity consumption looks like. Does your utility provide you a hourly breakdown so that you can form an idea of what you're using and at what time? Do you charge your car daily and can you keep it under the...

<span>I'm not surprised that a 16A <a href="http://www.myelectriccarforums.com/electric-vehicle-charger/" class="interlinkr" target="_blank">EVSE<span class="tip">Compare EVSE equipment</span></a> makes a big difference. A car draws a couple of amps of a parasitic load to service its internal circu...

Re: Say Address Help requested

I'm curious where you're located? I'll have to try saying "zip code." It would be an interesting navigation experiment — the average US zip code is a 10 mile wide blob, and the largest is the size of a small state. I recall being frustrated once trying to navigate just to "Main Street" in a small to...
