Re: Tou calculation help.

It seems to me that you've got it mostly figured out. You need to present what the daily electricity consumption looks like. Does your utility provide you a hourly breakdown so that you can form an idea of what you're using and at what time? Do you charge your car daily and can you keep it under the...

Re: Level 1 Living at 16 Amps

<span>I'm not surprised that a 16A <a href="http://www.myelectriccarforums.com/electric-vehicle-charger/" class="interlinkr" target="_blank">EVSE<span class="tip">Compare EVSE equipment</span></a> makes a big difference. A car draws a couple of amps of a parasitic load to service its internal circu...

Re: Say Address Help requested

I'm curious where you're located? I'll have to try saying "zip code." It would be an interesting navigation experiment — the average US zip code is a 10 mile wide blob, and the largest is the size of a small state. I recall being frustrated once trying to navigate just to "Main Street" in a small to...

Re: Level 1 Living at 16 Amps

It's seems like a belt-and-suspenders approach, but I can understand arguments for and against. As for Clipper Creek, I received a reply from my contact this morning : "This is a very good question, the answer is that the HCS-50 will try to supply the 48 Amps if the car goes haywire but the breaker ...

Re: Level 1 Living at 16 Amps

I'm betting that's a feature of the Open EV, and I can't argue against including it, although it is one more thing to malfunction and prevent charging. I was nosing around inside a Clipper Creek 40A unit I have and the input and output wires are directly connected at a contactor with no apparent mea...

Mazda's Answer to the i3?

Jalopnik published a drive report of the Japan-market Mazda MX-30. I sounds as if it's destined for the US later this year, or at least for California. Linkey >> https://jalopnik.com/mazdas-funky-mx-30-ev-is-high-style-high-price-low-ra-1847003108 It's seems short sighted that this late in the game,...

Re: Level 1 Living at 16 Amps

The EVSE only limits current to what it is set to or limited to, once it confirms that it is plugged into the EV, power can be turned on and the EV can start a charging session. I would only point out that the EVSE has no internal means to LIMIT current. It's a safety pass-thru, and communicates to...

Re: Early charging termination.

Oops, sorry, I forgot there's an L2 option. (I have my L1 Reduced Charging option set to a hot key.) Your plan sounds good -- try that alternate L2 for sure. About the breaker, if you're doing it right and shutting off the power, then you don't have to worry because there'll be no electricity to pla...

Re: Early charging termination.

Oh, does the EVSE have a reduced current setting? That's worth a shot. The EVSE is a pass-thru device. I just can't imagine it being the cause of the trip. It can't request or pull current, it only tells the car what current is available, and the car is responsible for pulling power. If there was a ...

Re: Early charging termination.

To clarify... The 50 Amp double breaker feeding a level 2 Chargepoint EVSE is tripping? It sounds like you plug and unplug the EVSE when not in use? (You mentioned you "plugged it in again.") I presume this is a dedicated circuit, or at least split between the EVSE and whatever you plug in (clothes ...
