Re: BMW Connected drive 3G to 4G?

I had many ConnectedDrive communication problems with my 2016 and had to resort to pulling the fuse for the module several times over the years to get it to work again. I have had no such problems with my 2017. Yes, my experience exactly with my 2017 so far. ConnectedDrive just works, and takes abo...

Re: Class Action Lawsuit

No one ever calls the i3 REx a plug-in hybrid. It's an EV with a little electric generator. The car clearly tells the driver when the battery is getting depleted. All electric cars go into some kind of turtle mode when the battery is almost exhausted. The only difference is that an i3 REx keeps limp...

Re: BMW Connected drive 3G to 4G?

84106836777 Telematics control unit TCB US 4G Ah, now we're getting somewhere. If a given i3 has the above part installed, it almost certainly already has 4G connectivity, regardless of what the iDrive screen says. What is the easiest way for me to check if my 2017 i3 has the above part installed?

Re: Heat

I was about to answer your question when I realized that you are probably not in the US since you are using Centigrade. I can't imagine the climate control works differently elsewhere, but thought I'd mention that just in case there's a difference. In the US model i3, at least, the heat and AC will ...

Re: BMW Connected drive 3G to 4G?

I still have the 3G logo in the corner of the screen but the car seems to only take 20-30 seconds to unlock the door from the phone app now. I asked if it was a 4G module but the sales rep had no idea and neither did the tech. Erin, thanks for sharing your experience. I have a 2017 i3, the last yea...

Re: Why is the roof black?

The other issue that we have is that BMW made our roofs out of exotic materials (carbon fibre) and the resins used to put the layers together may be exposed or clear-coated. Apparently, this doesn't apply if your car has a moonroof. I hadn't really thought about the roof material until I gently kno...

Re: Charge port door actuator died - common issue?

It's an electro-mechanical device...they wear out over time and use. Regardless of the miles, you may have opened it lots if you're taking mostly shorter trips and plugging in when getting home, versus someone who nearly empties their battery before they recharge...IOW, miles isn't a good measure. ...

Charge port door actuator died - common issue?

The charge part door in my 2017 i3 stopped opening reliably recently. The door would sometimes pop open weakly and sometimes not open at all. I took the car into the dealership today and they diagnosed it as a failed actuator. They replaced it for free under warranty and the door is popping open ent...

Re: Increased U-Turnage in the i3...

I've always driven small cars, so I'm used to good turning radii, but the i3 is in a whole different league, isn't it? I'm definitely making more U-turns than I've ever made before.

Re: BMW Connected drive 3G to 4G?

If you had a current active (paid) subscription, the upgrade, of course was free, or you could opt for the $200 cash gift card, or a $300 gift card for BMW swag. If you had a lapsed subscription, the cost for the combox swap (parts/labor/programming/activation) was being quoted at $1,000. That's us...
