Re: Replacing the 2014 BEV engine bracket + mount myself

Coming from the collision world, you might think twice before drilling any holes into any structural component of any vehicle. Especially a frame rail. This might impact the vehicle’s crumple zone performance in the event of a collision. The manufacturer engineers specific kink areas and crumple zon...

Re: 801252: Replacing BMW i3 air conditioning compressor

For environmental reasons to perform this replacement, you’d need a evac & recharge AC machine to replace the AC refrigerant & oil. I’m sure they’re $5000, not a DIY project.

A body shop has this equipment, and would be a much cheaper rate vs. mechanical shop or dealer.

Good luck

Re: To buy or not to buy 2015 i3 REx - battery concerns

The 2017 is a keeper. Even with the cold weather, it is getting around 115 Miles on battery, compared to 50 with the 2015. This car has already ruined gas cars for me. My wife's 2020 Honda Odyssey feels crude in comparison. Jacob I second Jacob’s comments. As an owner of both 2015 (60ah) and 2017 (...

Re: Question on Installing Level 2 Charger @Home

16A / 240V (3.8 kW rate) might work for a small i3 battery, but if ever plan on buying a longer range EV it’s going to take a while to charge. Can’t imagine waiting 20+ hrs to charge up a Tesla with a 100kWh pack.

Re: Question on Installing Level 2 Charger @Home

I'd suggest getting a NEMA 14-50 plug installed and a 40A charger (EVSE). Even though our i3's can only take 30 or 32A, this will future proof all you charging at 40A. Currently only Teslas takes 40+ amps. All new production Teslas take 48A max (unless you have a older Model S/X with dual chargers)....

Re: Self replacement part

Just take it to a body shop, they'll figure out where that thing goes and make sure it's secured properly. Probably won't cost much.

Re: My i3 caught on fire!

Wow sorry to hear about your i3 catching fire. I'd file a claim with your own insurance company, as long as you have comprehensive coverage it will fall under that coverage/deductible. Comprehensive does cover mechanical failures. Let them work it out with BMW on fault and possible subrogation. The ...

Re: Embarrassed by the horn?

Has anyone found a replacement horn that’s a little more BMWish? I agree it’s the most wimpy horn I’ve ever heard.

Re: I'm a newbie.

FB i3 groups seem to want to add aux fuel tank in the frunk and swap 60aH batteries to 120aH. Some useful stuff there. When it comes to coding, it’s the only way to go for long trips. In 2020 I bought two i3s, and would never made it home without coding (and 300 fuel stops for 2.1g) LOL. For under $...
