Re: End of production

I believe the EV landscape has changed a lot since late 2019. I don't think i3 will be competitive in its current form until 2024. So will BMW do a major investment to improve the car's technology and wiring? I think they would if they were going to replace it with a new model on a similar platform....

Re: End of production

There is a credible rumor on Bimmerpost forum indicating i3 production will end in 6/22 (about 14 months from now). That means the 2022 model will be the last model year, also indicating upgraded battery pack is cancelled (doesn't make sense for 1 model year only). This is obviously a rumor but fro...

Re: Android my BMW App Now Available in Play Store

One big thing that I noticed is BMW Value Service, not sure if this is a new service or a new feature of the app. If this thing plays out it will be a big thing and much more useful than some features on a new app. Looks like BMW is trying to tackle the high cost of servicing by dealers. Dealers tha...

Re: End of production

US used to be the largest market for i3. In recent years market has shifted significantly to Europe. BMW also needs to sell as many i3s as they can in Europe to reduce emissions fines under current EU policy. I think that could be a reason for reducing emphasis in US market. I think the official nar...

Re: Keeping the i3, Bought an ID.4...

I had reserved an iD4 first edition, but cancelled and purchased a CPO 2018 i3 REX. The main reason was that due to COVID related changes my driving distance has dropped quite a lot. I have only 17,000 miles on my other car at 2.5 year mark, normally it is closer to 37,500 at this point. So it just ...

Re: Driving on Gas only.. Can I drive 200 miles

The generator can generate 22-24 kW (depending on model year). So if your instant consumption is for example 3.5 miles/kWh @70 miles/hr, your car is using 70/3.5 = 20 kW power, so the generator should be able to maintain the battery level. If it drops to 2 miles/kWh in an upgrade and you are doing 6...

Re: Edmunds TCO - Fact or Fiction?

Since battery was damaged you could have pushed for battery warranty. But unless it is not a common failure the manufacturer doesn't have an obligation to cover every single occurrence. There is some risk with purchasing any car (including Mach e), the only way to completely mitigate it is to purcha...

Re: Edmunds TCO - Fact or Fiction?

If you buy CPO BMW offers 0.9% for 3 years or 1.49% for 5 years. So the finance charge is also questionable.

I also think both repair and maintenance are exaggerated on average, regardless it could have a higher running cost than a new Kona. If you want a low cost EV try Leaf or Bolt or a new Ioniq.

Re: Driving on Gas only.. Can I drive 200 miles

For long trips you definitely wan the hold state of charge. If you start the engine at 6% then you have to be very careful to refuel before the gas tank is empty. This could become tiring at every 70-80 miles. If you start the engine at 75% you can run the fuel to the last drop and then find the nex...
