Re: Charging to 80% capacity

BMW came up with departure time charging scheme for the i3, the hope is that you won't let the car sit at 100% charge for extended periods. If you charge to 100% using departure time, it is OK. The problems arise when you charge to 100% and the car sits for a few days, or weeks.

Re: Is REx worth it?

Here is the engine technical training material, if anyone is interested: https://attachments.priuschat.com/attachment-files/2016/07/108943_12_W20-Engine.pdf This is for the 60ah models, the newer models have slightly more power (38 hp instead of 34), but basically the same engine. It is a simple eng...

Congrats on the new i3! It should be a fun car for Hawaii's narrow roads. Just curious, how is the inventory in Hawaii? Was it a popular car? Are they importing used i3s from other states?

Thanks,

Re: Is REx worth it?

Sorry, I meant 120ah. There is no visual difference. I am not sure about UK, in the US 2018 model years are 94ah and 2019s are 120 ah. I am pretty sure in UK 2019 are 120ah, but I am not sure about the cutoff date in 2018 models. One way is to check the VIN using a BMW VIN decoder.

Re: Is REx worth it?

Having REX definitely has its advantages, but if you have a hybrid car those are less important. If I had a hybrid as a second car, I would have bought a 130ah BEV.

Re: Is REx worth it?

I remember in UK there were road tax implications for REX. Not sure if it will impact your situation.

The 94ah can do 100-130 miles. Based on your description I think a BEV could be a better choice. Why not spend the REX money on a 120ah BEV model?

Re: BMW i3 was ahead of its time AGAIN!

From what I saw a while ago the i4 is sold out at least through to end of 2022. The lower build numbers is probably due to ramping up manufacturing of the i4 or limited supply of the parts required. New i3's I think are shipping with the old smaller centre screen so there's an issue obtaining the l...

Re: BMW i3 was ahead of its time AGAIN!

I think these are Europe stats. None of the other BMW models can replace the i3 as an urban centric model. I think BMW counting on Mini to fill the void left by i3. But the current Mini EV doesn't have the i3 range and practicality. It looks like BMW EV strategy is in shambles. They don't have a pro...

Re: BMW i3 was ahead of its time AGAIN!

In Europe the outgoing i3 is setting sales records and doing much better than the trio of current BMW BEV models (i4, ix, and ix3).
