Anyway the latest i3, and iX3, manual has changed the advice to only charge to 80%. Manual dated FEB 22.
I assume you mean latest i4? The i3 doesn't have a setting to limit to 80%.

Re: BMW i3 was ahead of its time AGAIN!

It is definitely an impressive car, but it is not their best effort. It doesn't have any advancements or major contribution to the status quo. It was OK if it was released 5 years ago. Now it feels outdated before even the first units ship to customers.

Re: Charging to 80% capacity

Keep in mind that for BMW i4 97.1% of the battery is usable. For i3 it is about 90%. The i3 battery is also high cobalt, which helps with longevity. Gen 5 models use lower cobalt battery chemistry. I think BMWs idea was that people will use departure time charging most of the time, so 10% buffer is ...

Re: BMW 2021 change to instrument light colours?

The Deka also lacks lights on visor mirrors. Upper trims have lighted visors.

Re: i3 interior Design Research

What makes this interior special for i3 owners? Quality of materials, fit and finish or maybe design layout? The main design feature is that the A pillars are moved forward (allowed by EV architecture), in combination with boxy shape and no center console, there is a lot of space around the front o...

Re: Maintenance cost on used BMW I3

The engine should be more or less the same, but some parts (for example engine mounts) and engine tuning is different. The 2017+ models with 94ah battery make 38 hp, instead of 34 hp on earlier models. Someone had an engine for sale a few days ago on the forum. I would be surprised if the entire eng...

Re: Charging to 80% capacity

The problems with the workaround of setting a later than planned departure time is that it leaves the car unclimatized ahead of a planned departure, and if not shut off after driving, the car will likely be parked somewhere cooling or heating the cabin when it's not needed. A climatized cabin is on...

Re: Charging to 80% capacity

I forgot to mention, make sure your preferred charging time allows the cat to charge between when you plug in and your departure time. If you don’t have lower cost electricity, preferred charging should be 24 hrs.

Re: Charging to 80% capacity

You set departure times (up to three, for different days of the week). Make sure departure times are selected. Then you select "charge in time slot", instead of "charge immediately". I use one departure time for weekdays (9 am), and one for weekends (11 am). These two are always ...

Re: Charging to 80% capacity

BMW came up with departure time charging scheme for the i3, the hope is that you won't let the car sit at 100% charge for extended periods. If you charge to 100% using departure time, it is OK. The problems arise when you charge to 100% and the car sits for a few days, or weeks. Departure time char...
