Re: Brake fluid replacement

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means that it absorbs water from the air. Estimates are that it absorbs 2-3% water per year. Does it make any difference if the year-round climate has an average humidity well over 50% (most of the eastern US) as compared to the Sonoran desert surrounding Phoenix w...

Re: Sunshades for the windshield that work

3M's Crystalline tint blocks a significant amount of IR and UV without being dark. It's a bit harder to install because it is thicker than many, and 3M only sells it to dealerships that have taken their training, so may not be available in as many places. Installed properly, it is optically perfect.

Re: Accessories Still Active

Try hitting the start/stop button a second time or to lock the car...that tells the thing to actually shut down stuff right away.

Re: Brake fluid replacement

While lots of the brake system is metal, there are some rubber components (seals) and some sections of flexible rubber hoses. Any rubber seal or hose can let some moisture into the system. The brake fluid REALLY likes water...it will suck it through the rubber. That's one reason why they always tell...

Re: Brake fluid replacement

Brake components are expensive especially the ABS controller/pump. Moisture can cause things to corrode from inside. Preventive service is a good idea, and a staple of German tech. As noted, the moisture absorption is constant, and moisture is the culprit for that corrosion. Best to avoid that by re...

Re: Does getting a tesla wall charger and a Tesla to j1772 adapter make more sense than a 40A juicebox ?

Okay, yes, I was wrong - I was mistaking that for the Tesla product. That probably will work. What could get messy is the pilot signal, which is the thing that tells the vehicle how much current is available from the EVSE. If that reports incorrectly, or says more is available than the device can ac...

Re: Does getting a tesla wall charger and a Tesla to j1772 adapter make more sense than a 40A juicebox ?

The Tesla tap, connects a TESLA car's female to a J1772 plug (female) (it has a male plug on one end to plug into a TESLA, and a FEMALE socket to plug a J1772 plug into it). What you'd need for an i3 is a TESLA female to a J1772 male, the exact opposite. IOW, it won't work, nor is the protocol the s...

Re: Charge Percentage

Depending on the state of your brake rotor, you may never notice that the brakes are being applied versus regeneration slowing the car...the computer balances the two automatically. For many people, their rotors tend to get a coating of rust on them from little use, and on those, you do tend to hear...

Re: Does getting a tesla wall charger and a Tesla to j1772 adapter make more sense than a 40A juicebox ?

The Tesla adapter plugs into the car, and then provides a socket to plug a J1772 into. A Tesla wall charger, I think, has a Tesla plug on it, no adapter required. If I understand correctly, no, you cannot use one of their wall charging units with an i3 as their adapter would have a female J1772 on i...

Re: NON OEM wheels & tires (wider)

The only winter tire rated also for use all-seasons that I'm aware of is made by Nokian (WR G4), but they do not make one to fit the i3. By the very nature of a winter tire, with rare exceptions, when it gets hot, they wear out fairly fast.
