Re: i3 Preconditioning Facts

Nice post - thought I knew everything but not the 3 hour limit. I've user the iRemote app a few times on the way back from shopping whilst parked at a public chargers thinking well if the battery gets 15 muinutes to warm up... nevermind at least the car was toasty. I've got a couple of questions tha...

Re: BMW R&D Boss - "...very hard to replace the batteries...

Tesla started out intending to make EV components (which none of the mfrs bought). I'd imagine if the i3 sells enough units they'd investigate this approach. They have done it for their relatively low volume roadster, so the i3 with 10,000 units sold already must be an attractive battery sales oppor...

Re: BMW R&D Boss - "...very hard to replace the batteries...

This isn’t really consistent with what else BMW are stating – that they will be recycling old battery packs into stationary storage applications. My take is that it will be a long time till anyone finds out. With an 8 year 100,000 mile warranty I’d wait at least 8 years to replace them unless I hit ...

Re: Will the type 2 Mennekes plug pass though a UK letter bo

You do realise this means having a potentially bulky EVSE in your hall/elsewhere. Which will look odd. And is the drive right outside the front door? 5m cable isn't as long as you think. Don't forget - you could always get a beefy extension cable and run a 13 amp line out instead. As long as you are...

Re: I think I hate my i3 Rex...

I wasn't going to reply when I read your second post though subsequent posts established a bit more empathy and understanding. Same here... but I can now see it was initial frustration with what should have been an epic drive home. (FWIW My write up of my first day is here.... https://speakev.com/t...

Re: Ecotricity

Out of my 16000 miles I think that 80% is by using Rex. Clearly not the objective when purchasing a £42000 i3. Another waste of time experience today while driving up to Middlesbrough. Ecotricity CCS station at Ferrybridge services still out of order but the truth is that it has never been "in" ord...

Re: Ecotricity

Free to join and free to use. Makes you wonder why they take so long to fix them. ;) It actually becuase is not a simple turn up press some buttons on the menu and swap out a circuit board. They need the manufacturer to design new parts, build and test them and then they can schedule an upgrade prog...

Re: UK Finding/ using recharging points

Ive had mine 3 weeks nearly. Tried to use CCS 5 times. Only worked once. I wouldnt even attempt a long journey in a BEV as I have a 1 year old. Of the 17 public charging station attempts Ive made only 4 have been successful. Either ICEd ,out of order, worng charging card car park closed or worst of ...

Re: Select N while waiting at traffic lights?

Not sure if the following works in an i3 but it's a blast in a Nissan Leaf: At red traffic lights, select N and fully depress accelerator. When lights change to green, rapidly shift into D and enjoy instantaneous, cheek-wobbling acceleration! Looking forward to trying this in the i3 :) In the i3 ju...

Re: Source London

That photo is a good example of what has gone wrong with electric charging. Compare that to petrol where to access a refill point all you need is a bank card issued to you free of charge from your bank! Why all this RFID nonsense? My guess is they are either cheaper than chip and pin / contactless, ...
