Re: "More than 100 BMW i3’s leave the plant each day"

Flipping 'eck. That means they build 1 every 15 minutes. I can't even stick a lego set together in that time ;-)

What that means there's another potential 36,500 new i3 owners this year. If they sell them all that's up in Leaf territory for sales.

Re: UK Finding/ using recharging points

I went on a trip to the NEC yesterday to see the Autocar show, and tried to charge at two Ecotricity sites - Corely North (M6) and Warwick South (M40). Both CCS chargers threw up errors and failed to provide a charge, despite several attempts. I called the Helpline but got a message - please call b...

Re: Battery - Best Practice

The only thing I'd heard that shortens battery life quickly is extremes of temperature. Cold as posted previously with a low battery, but also heat. They've been testing a bunch of Leafs in Phoenix, Arizona IIRC, running full discharge every day then topping them back up to full on a fast DC charger...

Re: UK Finding/ using recharging points

I was unhappy about getting a REX, but the paucity & fragility of the recharge infrastructure - and the drop in range in the winter has made me very glad I did. Turning up at a charge station & finding it is knackered is not a disaster. Of course it shouldn't be knackered, but it really is still ea...

Re: Hold charge function

For the US cars - that 6.5% charging thing is a total waste and only there for BMW to brag on total electric miles - it makes no sense to deplete the battery to that level since with 2-4 people in the car and attempting to climb a hill or pass a car results in an unsafe situation. That's not really...

Re: UK Order v Delivery Dates

For the record I ordered a Rex mid September and just before the new year was informed that it has started production. Was then told that it may be completed later this month. The long wait is nearly over... Having said that I am thinking of delaying registration to get a 2015 plate. Should I do th...

Re: Fast DC (CCS) charger on M25...

I'm having similarly disappointing experiences with the Ecotricity CCS network... A round trip, with diversions, of 286 miles, 220 on Rex. Thank goodness the car is terrific. That just shows why anyone buying a BEV instead of a REX is mad In my mind. Unless you plan limit all your journeys to a 25-...

Re: Retrofitting/fixing EU gas tank into US model?

I'd hang on before going EU spec. I'm sure some clever so and so will bring out an after market 15-20 litre tank, assuming there is space. It would sell like hot cakes.

Probably need to do some coding though or the GOM and gauges won't be correct.

Re: pick up new car tomorrow

..... So, if this theory is correct (and it is only a theory at this point), I maximize the total miles covered using battery power and minimize the gas consumption and time the REx operates by using the REx only for the higher-speed portions of the trip. I'm pretty sure running the rex on high spe...
