Re: BMW i3 auxiliary battery sizes

What are the dimensions of the original battery? I replaced my Prius battery with an Odyssey and never looked back. In my case, I had to use some 1"x1" shims to make sure it was held correctly. Regardless, I was pleased with the results. They make a full line that includes popular motorcycle batter...

Re: BMW i3 auxiliary battery sizes

Apples and oranges.... Wasnt it obvious? My whole point for this discussion, and my decision to go with a larger battery, is that if there is the slightest consumption over the normal sleep mode (0.05-0.15A) the 12v battery will go flat and it will probably be dead too. It happens, and will happen ...

Re: BMW i3 auxiliary battery sizes

If that happens to your i3, it has a serious abnormal 12V load that needs to be fixed, or the 12V battery is bad. For a healthy 20Ah battery to be fully discharged in 5 minutes, the load would need to be 240A! But if the 12V battery is unable to hold a charge, is partially short-circuited, etc., it...

Re: BMW i3 auxiliary battery sizes

AGM batteries are much better at deeper discharge than conventional lead-acid ones. An AGM battery IS a lead-acid battery, it's just that the electrolyte is different. The logic to determine if the battery is fully charged and how to do it is different between conventional chemistry and AGM batteri...

Re: BMW i3 auxiliary battery sizes

The charging routine for an AGM battery is different than one for a typical lead-acid battery. When BMW sweated every gram of weight on the car's design, there obviously were some compromises, but the vast majority of people get by fine with the stock battery. That new battery may not have the same...

Re: Driver's door will not fully open

Was that the actual door hinges fail or the limiter only (which is known to fail since E34 models)? I would imagine if the actual hinge has bent the door will be out of whack and possibly not even closing anymore.

Re: i3 Replacement Remote

All BMW keys come pre-programmed for a particular car from the factory. Dealers cannot do anything to program keys, and such a thing like an OEM blank key does not exist on the free market. Once programmed to a car, BMW keys cannot be reprogrammed to another one. The only way is the key to be "reset...

Re: Brake lights at idle

If you use "Hold" mode on the newer BMWs, the brake lights are not on when the car is not moving. Smart!
