Re: BMW i3 Battery Upgrade Program

BMW recently announced a battery upgrade (retrofit) program. However BMW AG is leaving it up to individual markets if they want to participate. Both BMW of North America and BMW UK declined to participate at this time. Personally I think they made the right decision, for now. Here's my reasoning: h...

Re: BMW i3 Battery Upgrade Program

I agree with your analysis. However, in the BMW press release is stated "BMW gives BMW i customers the opportunity of retrofitting their purely electric BMW i3 (60 Ah) with the new 33 kWh battery" (emphasis mine). To me, that would exclude REx models because they are not purely electric. Is that yo...

Re: Why Tesla is going to dominate for the next 5yrs

Here's my thoughts on how BMW can keep their customers from defecting to Tesla:

Re: BMW Loses Core Development Team For i3 & i8

This is such a non-story in my opinion. This is the norm for the incestuous auto industry. Tesla recently lost a few top level executives to competitors, also, it's just how the industry works. The top management team of BMW i is still in place, led by Ulrich Kranz. You may remember a few years back...

Re: How Many Miles Do the Tires Last?

I have the 20" wheels and I had about 25,000 miles on mine when I needed a new set. I now have about 15,000 miles on the second set and they are in great shape. I don't know who told you they only last 10k or 2 to 4K, but they must be weekend autocross racers!

Re: Who reached 50 000 Miles or more ?

Hi guys, Tom is going to overtake us sometime (soon), but we have crossed 50000 miles just last week. Currently 50500 miles on the clock. A few light interior vibrations on occasion (from new, not worsened), some early adopters woes (as expected since our car is one of the very first REx-es) and qu...

Re: Who reached 50 000 Miles or more ?

I haven't reached 50k yet, but I am at 46,000. Other than a couple minor glitches that were fixed, its been running like a champ. The usable battery capacity is at 18.3kWh (BMW lists this at 18.8kWh when new), which is surprisingly good after 22 months and 46K. There's no more cabin noise than when ...

Re: Why Tesla is going to dominate for the next 5yrs

I think that there are about 115,000 gasoline stations (and probably over a million pumps) scattered around the USA, available in most any small town, and sometimes in between. It will be a VERY long time before the electric infrastructure will allow the freedom of travel, regardless of the size of...
