Re: 2017 i3 with REx coding warning -- don't mess with gas tank

EXPERT MODE on the bottom of the screen to read the settings in 3005 TANK. There are 3 expert menus that relate to using the gas tank: 1. TNK_LITER_RECHTS No change from default to changing value of RANGE EXTENDER > Increase electronically limited fuel capacity from "Unassigned value" to "Active". ...

Re: Poor REX Mpg on motorway

EPA seems to rate the REx at 31mpg. A stationary engine can be more efficient than a more normal ICE used in a vehicle, as running at ideal speeds is better than moving around, connected to a transmission with speed variations. You have two issues, thermal efficiency, which isn't great on most any ...

Re: New 2019 120 Pack Operation

My understanding is that with certain applications you can change the 6% to 12% (or perhaps higher). https://www.mybmwi3.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5746 Reportedly, coding has changed only the indicated charge level at which the REx engine would automatically start but not the actual charge level wh...

Re: Battery Replacement Under Warranty

Someone on this thread was able to get his battery replaced. Not just a few modules but the whole battery pack. I'm showing 13.9 on kappa max and getting 57 miles maximum. On most occasions, overnight charging only gives me 50-55 miles. I'm waiting for maximum to drop to 54 miles or 13.2 kappa max ...

Re: Battery Replacement Under Warranty

Opposum, Our stats are pretty close. My 2014 i3 has about 56k miles on it and kappa max is 13.9kw. Pretty good that your dealer did the check and confirmed 72%. Max range I get under any scenario now is about 57 miles. When this drops to about 53/54 miles, I'll have the local dealer check the capac...

Re: Poor REX Mpg on motorway

read this on another forum. think of it min terms of kWh not mpg as mpg efficiency all depends on the driving style (speed, environment). gas has energy density of 9.6kWh per liter tank has 9 liters Energy content of the tank: 9l x 9.6kWh / l = 86.4 kWh Efficiency of the REX approx. 30% kWh generate...

Re: Poor REX Mpg on motorway

I'm sure you've read that 70mph+ is really poor on EV efficiency ( on i3). At that speed, my i3S efficiency is 30-40 miles for 8-9kWs "uphill". Basically a quarter of the 94Ah batt. I do that drive almost everyday. If I take the "downhill" slower highways with lights, I have much much better efficie...

Re: Coding for TJA without the Quidzel?

I can't find any information on this... can I code my car for TJA without the quidzel dongle? Or will it throw a bunch of errors/not work? I know the dongle emulates a steering wheel touch. Just wondering what happens if I don't get it. I have a shop that will code it for much less than the dongle ...

Re: 2016 REx Advice

I am looking to buy a 2016 REx near me that is priced reasonably, etc. I am not new to EV's, but totally new to the i3. I just had a few questions that I cannot get year-by-year clarity on. - Is the '16 model capable of level 3 charging? I didn't look at the port. If so, how many kW? - Does the '16...
