Re: Road Trip Experience

If your route has regularly spaced fuel stations, it's doable. If you travel when they may be closed, it could be very problematic. I'm not a fan of carrying gas cans in a vehicle. Some do it. Comfort is very much an individual thing. When I've driven mine near its full range (a BEV), near the end, ...

Re: Getting Additional Key Fob

I have no idea if this is true, but one service manager told me that in the i3, the key fob is integral to the TPMS functionality. That's different from other models, if true. I lost one a few years ago, and through the dealer at the time, it was about $350 for a new one. I did have them lock the ol...

Re: Drivers wiper won't clear over 85mph

Top speed is electronically limited to about 90mph. At top speed, the electric motor is turning over 14,000rpm.

FWIW, the actual tire contact patch is the same, regardless of the aspect ratio of the tire at the same tire pressures. With the tall, narrow ones, it is longer F/R than wide, but works.

Re: Panic braking

Replying to old post but so far, I haven't seen "even though the i3 stops really well, what happens to the car behind it??" - *Smashhh is the experience I got... I've had two accidents where I stopped and the person behind me didn't...both were in slippery winter conditions. Too many people do not ...

Re: Question on Installing Level 2 Charger @Home

The cost of wiring (the materials and labor) can be a significant part of the cost to install an EVSE. Newer EVs will tend to have bigger batteries. So, IMHO, at least putting in the infrastructure for a larger unit, even if you buy a smaller one to plug or wire in, is prudent. What works well today...

Re: Trying to find key fob pairing instructions

I bought the remote from the BMW dealership...so, that might make a difference...don't know. I had lost one, so would have needed to have a key cut, but still might have been cheaper buying elsewhere...it was just easier.

Re: I Officially Hate Deer

I've come close a few times, and once, on White Sands Missile Range, had a close call with an Orix! Now, one of those will ruin your day! In upstate NY (apple orchard country), one night, something caught my eye, so I slowed, then stopped. In the next 10-seconds, 14 deer crossed the road in front of...

Re: Trying to find key fob pairing instructions

I lost one, and to pair the replacement, it was simple. - open the vehicle with the one working FOB. - take that one out of range of the vehicle - take the new one and put it up against the marked point on the steering column and hit the start button and you're done. This was a few years ago, but it...

Re: communication with BMS

Back near the release of the i3, BMW showed a prototype i3 battery installed as a home battery backup device. I don't know if they ever actually marketed it anywhere, but they have also done some demonstration utility battery backup systems using those battery packs. You probably won't get anything ...

Re: Question on Installing Level 2 Charger @Home

FWIW, I've seen my i3 (a 2014 BEV) pulling over 20A at the point where it's warming the batteries and the cabin at the same time. So, if you want to leave with a full battery and want to precondition and warm the batteries, you may not achieve that with something less for an EVSE. That 20A isn't con...
