Re: Resonant hum

They didn't report any inner sidewall wear when I asked them about it, which I thought was odd. If I were you, I'd look at the inside surface of the rear tire that was likely rubbing when it was mistakenly mounted on the front. It's not so easy to do now that it's on the rear, but with a flashlight...

Re: Test Drove 2016 BEV w/ 34k miles. Battery Check?

I know about the plastic bolts of the 14-15s, which I'll have to worry about, but we'll see what happens tomorrow. The motor mount bracket attachment bolt is steel, but the bracket itself is a plastic composite. A software update reduces stress on this bracket, so there haven't been as many reports...

It's whatever you want it to be :D Some use it to secure a card that might be needed occasionally.

Re: Trouble charging at Harley Livewire fast charge stations

An i3 owner should be able to update the car's software without involving the dealer. When I bought my 2018 i3 earlier this year, I updated the software using a USB flash drive. The only owner-updatable software is the phone and media software. This software is included in the large system software...

Re: Test Drove 2016 BEV w/ 34k miles. Battery Check?

Are you really averaging 5.2mi/kWh?? That's the lifetime average of our i3 according to the BMW Connected app. It was 5.5 mi/kWh in the original BMW i app or whatever it was called. Until 2018, we spent the 6 warmest months at our Swedish apartment and stored our i3, so we didn't use much A/C durin...

Just received my official copy of this sad letter via email...
Me, also, for our 2014 i3. I just don't believe that no 4G upgrade exists.

Re: Recurrent Wins NSF Grant to Study Battery Degradation in EVs

Actual battery cell degradation is difficult to measure using a typical EV's instrumentation. Apparent degradation could be due actual irreversible cell degradation, charge level imbalance among all the cells that temporarily reduces usable capacity until the charge levels are balanced, or the batte...

Re: Test Drove 2016 BEV w/ 34k miles. Battery Check?

We live in Honolulu, so neither cold nor hot weather is an issue (~65 ºF - 90 ºF). On warmer days, we use A/C set to 74 ºF. I tend to drive between 30 and 60 mph. I keep our tires inflated 10 psi over the recommended pressure which reduces rolling resistance and increases range a bit. Our 2014 BEV h...

Re: Rear tires worn excessively on outside

I bought a used 2015 BMW i3 REx, now with 36,000 miles of moderate driving by me. The rear tires need to be replaced due to excessive wear on the outside edge of each. Middle grooves of the rear tires are still OK but worn. Is this a common issue ? Is this bad rear end alignment ? Or any comments. ...

I will start by getting a charger from Amazon and trying that. I assume that an 8A Charger/Maintainer would work?
I have an 0.8 A CTEK charger that works fine with the i3's low-capacity 20 Ah 12 V battery, so your 8 A charger will be way more than necessary.
