Re: Any one here ordered a Tesla Model 3?

Detouring back to the ACC conversation from last week: alohart wrote: I almost always drive with ACC on and always monitor the instrument panel when driving. When ACC detects a vehicle ahead, a red car icon is displayed in the top center of the instrument panel. If we are approaching a vehicle ahead...

Re: New owner- need level 2 evse suggestions

If you've not worked with electricity or soldered before, starting work on an EVSE could be one of the last decisions you will ever make above ground. The safety risks are not trivial and the penalties for making errors are easily lethal. However, EVs do attract technically-minded folk – and amongst...

Re: Which options and trim levels do you prefer?

I'd recommend aftermarket window tint considering your summer temps! In particular, the windshield is massive which puts a heavier load on the air conditioning in the summer – A/C is one of the biggest power consumers after the drive motor. If i3s aren't too common in your area you might want to che...

Re: Coding the i3

This video from 2012 shows a "BMW Adaptive" headlamp. I've not seen anything like this in driving with my 2014 i3's "Adaptive LED" headlamps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBUYm5AghVI From my experience, the fixtures in the i3 offer only vertical deflection of the LED beam – no side-to-side or dyn...

Re: New owner- need level 2 evse suggestions

I would highly recommend OpenEVSE: https://store.openevse.com Keeping in mind that an EVSE is basically a remotely-controlled power switch, the ridiculous prices that some of the commercial units go for is borderline robbery. JuiceBox and OpenEVSE are more of a crowd-sourced solution. Risks are that...

Re: BMW Extended Warranty Cost

Kiomon –

Could you list the country where you purchased your i3? That has a big effect on which BMW entity will be providing the extended warranty.

Re: Traffic jam assist retro

As someone that has signed up on the interest list, I'm also not too keen on the buzzer idea. Preferable to a third-party buzzer would be an OEM alert chime (such as when ACC disconnects). Has the method of determining driver attentiveness officially been stated as pressing one of the steering wheel...

Re: Anyone considering with a lease expiring soon considering the Bolt as an alternative to a 2017 I3?

CG & michaelbmw – If it came off that I was trying to rag on the Bolt, that wasn't my direct intent. A 200+ mile EV at the Bolt's price point is going to get so many more people into electrics. I don't love the style, but I'm really glad GM built it and I hope it's a big success for them. What I was...

Re: Audio Dilemma

I auditioned the HK system before I bought my i3 and liked what I heard. To the OP that came equipped with test tones, very well played, sir! Two prior cars I've owned have had HK systems and I didn't think much of them, having had well-built aftermarket systems in the past. With that, I can definit...

Re: Anyone considering with a lease expiring soon considering the Bolt as an alternative to a 2017 I3?

Just to clarify specifications, the Bolt has a curb weight of a bit over 3,500 lbs. I've taken a 60Ah BEV i3 to the scales and it weighs, empty, under 2900 lbs. So a BEV i3 is 600 lbs. lighter. That said, body roll in the i3 is a not-insignificant problem. A rear anti-sway bar would have been a good...
