Re: Can I upgrade my 2017 battery to 2020?

i3 curb weights are all over the place. When we bought our 2014 BEV, its curb weight was listed as 2,634 lb. on the BMW USA Website. Shortly after I purchased my 2014 i3 BEV I took it to a truck scale. With minimal user-added detritus (and NO driver), my i3 weighed 2,880 lbs. I was more than a litt...

Re: Auto-dimming Wing Mirrors Useful??

How useful/necessary are the i3's auto-dimming side/wing mirrors? Hello MKH! A bit late, but... After a prang in 2016 I needed to replace the passenger's side-view mirror. The correct replacement mirror glass (photochromic) was US$350 while the non-photochromic glass was US$90. I went with non-phot...

fbt12 –

Please share the results of your service visit.

Knowing the cause of the intermittent knocking issue would be particularly interesting.

Good luck with the dealer!

Re: Scratched Hood...

Dear Angela86 – You're not going to need a new hood! The exterior panels of the i3 are thermoplastic. They will never rust so you have plenty of time to sort things out. Sorry to hear that your Mr. is giving you stress about the hood scratch... considering the state of the world, a hood scratch shou...

Re: New battery for the i3 and higher charging speed update

Dear Berlindriver –
I believe that The Netherlands has the highest density of DC chargers in the world (see www..com)

Could you double-check the "www..com" link, please?

Re: 2014 Yes or No...

Away2Maine – Congratulations on your 2014 i3 purchase! BMW did such a good job at making an EV that is fun to drive – I hope you enjoy the miles ahead. Some thoughts and an anecdote – anecdote first... My insurance took a big jump this year, way more than one might expect for a six-year-old car with...

Re: Welcome to the BMW i3 Forum

Bertone & richs – As others have said, welcome to the forum! There is a lot of smart advice here posted by knowledgeable members. You both now own a carbon-fiber RWD vehicle that was years ahead of its time when it came out in 2013 – many of its design features have yet to be matched in the marketpl...

Re: Clunking noise when going over bumps

Code: Select all

Placing hands at nine and three (or twelve and six when on a lift) and trying to shear the wheel back and forth
To be clear, I'm referring to getting your hands on the wheel & tire combo, not the steering wheel.

Re: Clunking noise when going over bumps

If you do this motion slowly, can you feel a disturbance?

Placing hands at nine and three (or twelve and six when on a lift) and trying to shear the wheel back and forth is how to determine that the hub has a failed bearing.
