Re: i3 with 57kWh battery

One interesting note: Apparently the new BMW i3 battery upgrade program rolled out in Europe is only available for i3 BEV models. A UK i3 owner ordered the upgrade from BMW through his dealer, and then the installation was cancelled because he had the Rex model, BMW would not do the upgrade, as was ...

Re: i3 with 57kWh battery

but it would be an additional 170 lbs i.e. passengers + extra 170lbs, so it could effect handling (and braking). Yeah, guess it would all depend on what max specs the existing suspension/brakes were engineered for. Automotive engineering design usually is based a safety factor of 3, with components...

Re: Tire issue is frustrating. Need help with spare options...

Good to carry is a tire repair plug kit small and repairs most common damage like nails Not a bad idea at all, think I will be adding one to the "frunk". In the 10 years I had my previous vehicle (Honda Element), all but one of five flat-tires were from screws or nails that a tire plug kit would ha...

Re: i3 with 57kWh battery

Finally found a good comparison article. According to the tester - the new higher capacity battery pack adds 170 lbs to the curb-weight of the i3. Wonder if BMW addresses that in their battery-swap upgrade - and includes suspension tuning? Or if they consider it within operational limits of the exis...

Re: Tire issue is frustrating. Need help with spare options...

As mentioned TireRack has the tires in stock, with next day shipping. Most BMW dealers should also have the tires in stock (I checked locally and all three of our BMW Dealers said they had them). If you are the first owner of the car and still under the service plan, BMW Road-Side Assistance (one-bu...

Re: i3 with 57kWh battery

When BMW has optioned bigger (heavier) battery packs, they also have changed the springs in the rear From the EU BMW blog: These new battery cells are physically the same size as the currently used cells, but can hold 50% more energy and are only slightly heavier. Not much out their on what exactly...

Re: i3 with 57kWh battery

ME TOO! And I feel exactly the same as you do about the "unique" i3. BMW is certainly considering battery-pack upgrades for the US market - hopefully if implemented, the projected price will drop. https://cleantechnica.com/2017/07/02/bmw-i3-94-ah-33-kwh-battery-upgrade-hits-us-market/ I know that fo...

Really Laughable Electric Car Questions

Thought we should start a thread to track some of the really funny questions we electric car owners get asked by the less-than informed, Like the other day, in my wife's exercise class one of the other participants overheard her discussing our new i3 with a friend. The eavesdropper politely listened...

Re: Will i3s wheels fit an i3 as the offsets seem to be the major difference

The lack of availability of regular i3 rex tires makes me nervous
Tirerack.com stocks them, and for my zip-code shows them as free-shipping, next-day delivery, listing 18 TR recommended installers within 5 miles of me, including one mobile installer who will come and do the install on-site.

Re: BMW i3 Carbon Fiber Tablet/Phone Holder

Would you mind posting a pic ? Thanks. Here your go. Both the ball and the socket mount on with 3M adhesive disks - which can be purchased by themselves from Nite Ize - (got mine on eBay), for moving the mounts. I've moved the socket to two different phone cases now, and this is the second car for ...
