Re: New transmission required

So with it being warranty I didn’t get an exact breakdown. They had it 2 weeks due to Covid 19 so don’t know how many hours labour but at £60 p/h maybe £5k parts and £1k labour. I did ask “so if the new transmission breaks again is there any period of warranty for that?” To which the answer was “no...

Re: Which versions of the AC compressor have people had failures with?

I took possession of my i3 in August, 2014. The only other AC work ever done was a recharge 2 weeks before the catastrophic failure. So you almost certainly had the first version for your failure, which is likely the least reliable version. My guess is that the two most significant issues are the a...

Re: 2014 Yes or No...

But where are all of the other cases of the failed AC? 1) The day I took my i3 into the dealer with the clicking noise from the AC, a service writer (not mine) met me in the drive bay and asked me if it was my AC. I said yes, the AC is not blowing cold. He said he just heard that clicking from anot...

Re: 2014 Yes or No...

I'm also in Indy and drove home my 2014 Rex from Minneapolis about a month ago. I LOVE IT! You can't beat the value on a 2014, IMO. I was mainly shopping Chevy Bolts and Teslas, but I got a really well-appointed 2014 i3 with most options I wanted and a set of winter tires/wheels for $12k. Man, the ...

Re: 2014 Yes or No...

I'm a sample of one. Keep in mind, many people go onto forums when they have a problem. I joined because I was interested in understanding the car. So, problems tend to get exaggerated. Mine was one of the first built for the USA, so, if anyone was going to have infant mortality or other issues, it...

Re: Air conditioning failed

.... 3) Last I heard, BMW started covering all but about $5K of this >$20K repair. I don't know if that is their new policy on this issue, but I do know it is not retroactive, as all I got was a $2000 "goodwill" check that did not even cover 10% of the cost. To cover my actual losses, BMW owes me $...

Re: Air conditioning failed

Couple of issues. 1) Most auto AC systems have traps in the dryer to catch non-refrigerant particles that aren't supposed to be there. Apparently, BMW chose to leave the trap out, trading off slightly higher AC efficiency for robustness of the system. I am guessing that the i3 Rex would likely be sl...
Alan, some guy beat you to it, post #4 on the first page.
Opps! That was my post! I did look to see if I, or anyone else posted on this (forgetting that I already had) and did not notice that. Sorry. And, thanks!

Re: Things I Dislike About My i3

I don't believe anyone has mentioned disliking the AC compressor failure that leads to repair quotes over $20,000 (just under $23K for mine). At least we can love BMW for their goodwill gesture of helping with this situation for an i3 one year out of warranty, as that $2000 was so generous. N...
