Re: My first 24 hours with a 2020 i3s REX

I think the next most important one to tint is the windshield. When I bought my i3, the first owner had it all tinted with high-end ceramic tint, including the windshield. I had to remove the windshield tint because it bothered my eyes. It's a plastic - plus a layer of adhesive, so not as clear/ref...

Re: Warranty replacement of 12 V battery

I purchased a CPO 2017 REx in 2019 and think there might be something going on with the 12v, but dealership says not covered under warranty? Is there a difference in how i3s utilize this battery verses how ICE vehicles use their battery? Why are some dealers replacing these 12v batteries under warr...

Re: End of production

The 2024 date comes from an article published right at the end of 2019. https://ecomento.de/2019/12/12/bmw-i3-wird-bis-2024-weitergebaut/ Translated here: The new BMW boss, who took office in the middle of the year, confirmed in October that the brand's first - and so far only - all-electric car wil...

Re: End of production

MKH, I haven't been to my dealer in a long time – it's really disappointing to hear that the ones in your area have switched to order-only. This has been the issue for the last year or so - but may have been exacerbated by the COVID BMW plant shutdown. Was pleasantly surprised to actually see two n...

Re: 2018 with upgraded infotainment and no CarPlay

What exactly do you mean by 'upgraded infotainment'??

I believe for 2018 i3 CarPlay was an add-on option that had to be chosen/specified when the car was built. You can check your car's included options by inputting your VIN in one of the free BMW VIN check sites.

Re: End of production

I think you may be right. BMW is no longer even trying to sell the i3 in the USA. Dealers aren't stocking them at all, special order only. The iX1 is guesstimated in the same price-range as the i3. Though 'Inside EV" thnks the i3 won't be discontinued until 2024. And the question is, will the iX1 ev...

Re: Navigation Update

A 2017 can't do a remote update. You will need to download the 'updater' software onto a computer, use that to download the new update, copy it on a USB drive, plug the USB drive into the idrive in the car and use the idrive menu to complete the update from the USB stick.

Re: Hold State of Charge Feature for REX i3s

On the Bimmercode sit, they have a list of the ones they have tested to work well with the app and the BMW ODB II ports. ODB ports all meet a 'standard' but each car manufacturer will have their own additional port protocols.

Re: Hold State of Charge Feature for REX i3s

You need the BimmerCode App, and an OBD dongle to connect to the car.

After that, it's as simple as clicking on selection buttons in the app.
