Re: Tire issue is frustrating. Need help with spare options...

As mentioned TireRack has the tires in stock, with next day shipping. Most BMW dealers should also have the tires in stock (I checked locally and all three of our BMW Dealers said they had them). If you are the first owner of the car and still under the service plan, BMW Road-Side Assistance (one-bu...

Re: i3 with 57kWh battery

When BMW has optioned bigger (heavier) battery packs, they also have changed the springs in the rear From the EU BMW blog: These new battery cells are physically the same size as the currently used cells, but can hold 50% more energy and are only slightly heavier. Not much out their on what exactly...

Re: i3 with 57kWh battery

ME TOO! And I feel exactly the same as you do about the "unique" i3. BMW is certainly considering battery-pack upgrades for the US market - hopefully if implemented, the projected price will drop. https://cleantechnica.com/2017/07/02/bmw-i3-94-ah-33-kwh-battery-upgrade-hits-us-market/ I know that fo...

Really Laughable Electric Car Questions

Thought we should start a thread to track some of the really funny questions we electric car owners get asked by the less-than informed, Like the other day, in my wife's exercise class one of the other participants overheard her discussing our new i3 with a friend. The eavesdropper politely listened...

Re: Will i3s wheels fit an i3 as the offsets seem to be the major difference

The lack of availability of regular i3 rex tires makes me nervous
Tirerack.com stocks them, and for my zip-code shows them as free-shipping, next-day delivery, listing 18 TR recommended installers within 5 miles of me, including one mobile installer who will come and do the install on-site.

Re: BMW i3 Carbon Fiber Tablet/Phone Holder

Would you mind posting a pic ? Thanks. Here your go. Both the ball and the socket mount on with 3M adhesive disks - which can be purchased by themselves from Nite Ize - (got mine on eBay), for moving the mounts. I've moved the socket to two different phone cases now, and this is the second car for ...

Re: BMW i3 Carbon Fiber Tablet/Phone Holder

Proclip makes an excellent mounting base for i3 Yes, they do!, I ordered one and it just arrived today. Clips into the dash perfectly - very nice solid mount. I ordered the ProClip i3 base only. I re-used a Nite-Ize Steelie magnetic mount from my previous car, attaching it to the ProClip base to ho...

Re: New i3 owner from TX

Asked a friend, who is an electrical engineer (designs solid state chips and circuitry for high-end video cards) what he though stand-by power draw would be on my EVSE. He said with a pic of the circuitry "innards" he could do a calculated guess - but he also said something interesting. That if the ...

Re: Is the maintenance plan worth $600?

$600 is a lot to pay for an oil and filter change once a year and some wipers. For service, you are looking at one oil change a year + the standard vehicle check list they do at that time, and one brake flush every two years + the standard vehicle check list they do then too. Figure $150 for the oi...

Re: New i3 owner from TX

I bought the 60 A JuiceBox kit
Yeah, those are long-gone. eMotorworks has gone main-stream, and with maybe a few growing pains.

Now to get open source kits, you would need to go to Open EVSE
