Re: Article on High Mileage i3's

(I rarely charge at home, due to my 1st floor apartment making it awkward... Lol, you ought to change to a 2nd floor unit so you can throw a cord over the balcony and let it hang above the sidewalk! But in all seriousness, my garage is right off the sidewalk so I lay a heavy rubber doormat over my ...

Re: Can not send messages to my i3

Remote services have at least the appearance of being less reliable than the simple status reports, since the BMW server has to poll the car which then must respond to the request to set a destination, lock/unlock doors, sound the horn, climatize, etc. OTOH, when you check charge status, door lock s...

Re: Poor REX Mpg on motorway

If you're using a British gallon (5 qts) versus a US gallon (4 qts), then 30mpg is pretty poor. Otherwise, it's on par with what I've heard from other people. If you can't recharge, and are running a long trip almost entirely on petrol, there are LOTS of other vehicles that are more efficient. The ...

Re: Poor REX Mpg on motorway

REX fuel efficiency is nowhere near the electric efficiency. I think it's supposed to be in the 30s, but at 75 MPH, it's fair to expect less than that. Consumer Reports magazine in the US computed the REX efficiency to be in the low 30s (MPG) so your experience is on par with that.

Re: ConnectedDrive

Wow. I hadn't even thought about the google operating system and what that would do to stalk you. I have to admit I haven't tried using myself. It might be for the best just to take the battery out if you use an android OS device. That has the obvious limitations, of course. A friend of mine does ju...

Re: ConnectedDrive

For privacy purposes, you don't care if you're receiving gps signals, just that you're not transmitting your own position (that you're computing from the ephemerides). I guess if you can't receive, you can't compute, and if you can't compute, you have no position to share/leak, so in a roundabout wa...

Re: BMW Connnect Question

The connecteddrive works over whatever kind of internet connection you want: mobile data, home wifi, public wifi. Connecteddrive is a subscription service, but you should get a starter subscription with a new (and maybe cpo) car. I find it considerably more useful with mobile data, making sure I loc...

Re: BMW Connect app - shipping across country and tracking

I think the app only updates when the car is not in motion - as every update was at a gas station/rest area. That's how it works when it's moving under its own power. Position updates are sent when it stops moving. You can't stalk your spouse in real time . . . ;) It is interesting to know that it ...

Re: ConnectedDrive

I have been told that the app that we use on the i3 is the same app that is used on all current model BMW's (at least the ones that support remote operations). That includes the most expensive 7 Series cars. If that is true, and it fails on those cars as well, then I am baffled that BMW hasn't fixe...
