Re: Battery discharging while Stationary

No, the HV was sitting at 43% when I parked it but everything was dead in the morning, so I don't know how much trying to charge the 12V would have drained it before it finally fell over. There is little evidence that the HV battery pack charges the 12 V battery when an i3 is parked unless the HV b...

Re: Welcome to the BMW i3 Forum

I hear that they improved in 2017? The original 60 Ah (22 kWh) battery pack seems to lose capacity considerably faster than later battery packs. As a 60 Ah 2014 i3 owner, I recommend not considering any i3 earlier than a 2017 model if your budget allows. Even though some 60 Ah i3's were apparently ...

Re: Battery discharging while Stationary

It's the East Penn Manufacturing Co. I'm surprised that a U.S. manufacturer would be the source 12 V batteries for i3's sold in New Zealand. I'm pretty certain that the 12 V batteries in European i3's aren't supplied by East Penn Manufacturing. The voltage on the old battery was <1V and I'm now con...

Hydrogen is lighter than air, but the venting tube heads downwards :?
True, but it would be under pressure when vented, so that would force the hydrogen to flow downward.

Re: Battery discharging while Stationary

I have found some AGM batteries of 20aH and similar dimensions, but none have the breather tube. How important is that? I believe that AGM batteries are sealed with a pressure relief valve on each cell. A properly-functioning AGM battery cell shouldn't produce so much internal pressure that its pre...

Re: Optional ConnectedDrive services no longer available in store

Looking like BMW won't be offering any sort of upgrade option for us 3G telematics owners. That sucks  A few used 4G telematics modules are probably available. However, apparently replacing the 3G with the 4G version isn't as simple as one would hope. The new SIM information must be registere...

Re: Battery discharging while Stationary

Yeah, looks like that's what I'll have to do. No BMW dealer within 90km so I'll do the replacement myself and then get it registered. Biggest problem may be getting the correct replacement battery. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Don't bother registering the replacement battery. According ...

Frunk is in the dark end of the garage: any way of turning the car around (pushing) that you can think of?
Probably easier to do what's necessary to get better lighting into the frunk. Without 12 V power, I doubt that it's possible to shift out of Park or to release the parking brake.

Re: Battery discharging while Stationary

What are the specifications for a replacement 12V battery, please? 20 Ah AGM battery with a vent valve on each cell with a common outlet tube that can be connected to the i3's vent tube (i.e., not a power sports battery) 8.13" (207 mm) L x 3.56" (90 mm) W x 6.38" (162 mm) H The battery should be an...

Re: Corrosion - BMW i3

I live about 200m from the ocean in a hot and humid climate. The strong breeze brings a steady spray of droplets that coats everything and gets everywhere. Even though I live on the shore of a saltwater bay, there's no surf on this bay to create salt spray. I live on the leeward side of our island,...
