Re: Anyone else having issues with BMW connect App not working?

The "please try later" suggests that BMW's servers might not be working correctly when you launched the BMW Connected app. These servers are market-specific, so because the iOS version of BMW Connected works right now in the U.S. works for me, BMW Connected might not work for you if you're in a diff...

Re: Corrosion - BMW i3

Maybe galvanic corrosion between the aluminum body and the metal bolts in the i3? The i3 doesn't have an aluminum body like our 2000 Honda Insight had. An i3's body is a CFRP passenger compartment with thermoplastic exterior panels, neither of which corrodes. Honda used specially coated single-use ...

Re: Driving on Gas only.. Can I drive 200 miles

And the stupid computer wont let me set a departure time without the date/time.. Seems like a pretty smart computer to me because it warned you to set the date and time which you initially ignored. How could it have started charging at the time you specified without its date and time being set? Tha...

Re: Buying a 2017 i3

2) I will be going away for the summer for 2 months. Is it safe to leave the vehicle like this for so long, given the 12V battery issues. After two months, the 12 V battery might be discharged too much to boot the electronic modules necessary to drive. Remaining at a low charge level for an extende...

Re: Corrosion - BMW i3

your bolts, nuts, rotors, calipers, springs, and every metal piece will eventually rust out. As long as you don't see surface rust on your plastic, carbon fiber and glass components you shouldn't worry about the car. It's all normal. Much of the metal that would be corrosion-prone steel in most car...

Re: Stop the charger? Also BWM reliability question

My 2nd question is that I talked to a buddy of mine who is a car mechanic and he says the it's are unreliable and very expensive to repair when tech problems occur. I'll answer assuming that you meant to write "i3's" rather than "it's". In general, BEV's seem to be more reliable that REx's. The REx...

Re: Battery discharging while Stationary

That's interesting. Perhaps there is a difference between the 2014 and the 2017 then? Our 2014 i3 has November, 2018, system software. I would think that differences in charging behavior would be implemented in software, although the DC-DC converters could differ, I suppose. The apparent difference...

Re: Battery discharging while Stationary

My question is, given that it can top up small amounts of normal discharge by using the HV, why can it not do a more complete recharge if the 12V becomes significantly (but not completely) discharged? Good question! I have noticed that the high-voltage system remains on for at least 30 minutes afte...

Re: Battery discharging while Stationary

Do I need to disconnect the negative while charging? or not? Depends on the charger's amperage. My multistage charger charges at only 0.8 A. After an overnight charge, my charger hadn't progressed to the final stage due to the car's vampire load. After I disconnected the negative cable, charging co...
