Re: Check Engine light after coding change

All I can say is that this is not a common occurrence. Did it happen after you put new gas in the car? It could have something to do with you refueling the car, like loose gas cap or overfilling the tank.

Re: i3s non staggered / square tire setup

It should be more OK with a BEV, the REX has more weight on rear wheels. So it can benefit from wider tires in the back.

I don't think there will be a major issue, the winter setup is much narrower and it still works.

Re: To I3 REx or not to I3 REx?

A few additional thoughts about the BEV/REX debate: - The REX has sort of a better warranty in PZEV states (15yrs/150k miles). It is not clear if many people have taken advantage of this yet, but theoretically you should be able to cover many issues even for non REX component under PZEV warranty. - ...

Re: Purchasing 2019 i3s REX - 51k miles

Because 1) Tesla has the best resale value, BMW not so much, and 2) Tesla has 8 yr/100k mile power train warranty. So potential repairs on a used i3 are more expensive than a model 3.

Re: Purchasing 2019 i3s REX - 51k miles

It also depends on how much you are planning to drive. If you are planning to drive a lot in a couple of years you will be in high mileage territory, where things start to wear out. If you are planning to drive a few thousands a year I guess you will be OK. I wouldn't be concerned about REX mileage ...

How is BMW financial lease buy out pricing these days? Doesn't it make sense to buy out your car with current prices?

Re: To I3 REx or not to I3 REx?

I think many REX problems are due to infrequent usage. The most complex parts of the car are the high voltage parts which are shared between REX/BEV. Having said that based on engineering principles the chance of failure in REX is higher, simply because it has more parts. Personally I think for most...

Re: BMW ix and i4

I think currently the iD4 is the closes upgrade option in the US market. Even the ID.4 is too large and heavy compared with the i3. The ID.3 would be a better upgrade, but, of course, we in North American don't get to buy many of the EV's available in Europe. Yes, iD4 drives much heavier and more c...

Re: BMW ix and i4

In US both models will have much higher cost of ownership than i3. BMW offered great lease rates for i3, which is unlikely with i4. And ix will be a few times more expensive than i3 to run. As mentioned above the mini line will replace i3 as the low cost EV in BMW line up, but so far it doesn't have...

Mazda confirms MX-30 REX

Mazda finally confirmed there will be a MX-30 REX in US in 2022. This is the only other vehicle with a REX, although they call it a PHEV. Since i3 is discontinued this will be the closest alternative in US market.
