Re: i3 REX home charging problem

Thank you, this information is very helpful. I checked the manual and for Level 1 it is clear that the reduced rate will be proportional to the EVSE supplied rate, for Level 2 it is less clear but it makes sense that the car reduces the rate the same way. Anyway based on your explanation the problem...

Re: Economics of a Used i3 ReX

The CPO warranty is 5 years from the original in service date, so one year and unlimited miles in addition to the original 4 year warranty. For a 2017 right now you get on average 1.5 year warranty left. If you managed to change a water pump yourself then you can do a lot of i3 repairs as well. I do...

Re: i3 REX home charging problem

Thanks, I tried changing charge rate on the iDrive, it didn't help. Even the reduced rate (20 amps) is still higher than the rate my EVSE supplies (16 amps). If I could reduce it to 16 or 12 amps maybe it would have helped. The EVSE seller (Morec) thins the voltage on my circuit could be low, since ...

Re: Economics of a Used i3 ReX

In general all BMW repairs have become very expensive in US dealers. i3 with all its faults is still way more reliable than a typical BMW. In addition there could be some anti EV sentiment in BMW dealerships, so maybe they think if they charge higher rates people will stick with ICE BMWs. They also ...

i3 REX home charging problem

I am the relatively new owner of a 2018 i3 REX. I use a 16 amp EVSE (NEM 6-20) on a 20 amp dedicated circuit breaker to charge the car. The 2 chargers that I use (AxFast from Costco and a Morec charger from Amazon) both charge my Honda Clarity PHEV with zero issues. But with my i3 I get random charg...

Re: Economics of a Used i3 ReX

Here is my take based on my short ownership period and doing online research. The only wild card is if you get an unlikely major repair after warranty expiration. The battery is going to be fine because it has 8 years warranty. But other systems like AC and REX could have issues and since i3 is a un...

Re: Charting Battery Capacity/ State of Health Over Multiple Years

A 120 ah battery will go through 50% lower cycles during the life of the car (as well as warranty period), so it can be pushed further at 100% charge. A 60ah battery regularly goes through a deep daily charge/recharge cycle, but a 120ah battery is unlikely unless it is a super commuter with >100 mil...

Re: Ran the REX for the first time....

The REX is significantly down tuned from its scooter application. In the BMW 650 scooter it makes 60 hp at 7750 rpm. In the i3 REX it makes 38 hp at 5000 rpm. So in i3 even at max rpm it is in a relatively relaxed state of operation.
