Re: 12 volt battery failure question

Update—I took my 2016 Rex to the dealer today. The service tech determined that the 12 volt battery was defective (no surprise there), and the dealer replaced the battery under warranty.

Re: 12 volt battery failure question

Thanks for all the insightful replies. Leaving the vehicle connected to my home charger did the trick. The 12 volt battery received enough charge to power up all the electronics and put the vehicle in a ready state, and I drove it a few miles this afternoon with no problems. I am sure the battery is...

Re: 12 volt battery failure question

I seem to recall a post (maybe from jadnashuanh) that indicated that the vehicle's HV battery charging system has a process for recharging the 12 volt battery when needed, but I could not find the post. If so, that might explain why the car is currently accepting a charge, albeit at a very low rate.

12 volt battery failure question

I woke up this morning with my i3 Rex being completely dead with no remote or electrical or power functions. There was no prior warning or warning signs. All symptoms point to a failure of the 12 volt battery. I was able to open the charging port hatch with the manual release and connect my level 2 ...

Re: EV Li-ion battery lost 10% while parked for 4 hours

On occasion, I have seen the SOC on my 2016 i3 Rex drop anywhere from 2% to 5% after sitting in a cold parking garage for 8 to 12 hours during the winter months. I attributed the SOC loss to the loss of capacity caused by the cold temperatures while the vehicle is sitting idle.

Re: Hold state of charge vs. normal US REX operation

Like any ICE unit, I would think the Rex engine would occasionally need to run an extended period of time to fully warm up. After coding my car to activate the hold SOC function, I use the Rex on my work commute in the afternoons (an hour commute covering 30 miles of distance) 3 or 4 times a month t...

Re: ISTA Install Help

Speaking from personal experience of performing the battery reinitialization on my i3 Rex about 10 months ago, I agree with Alohart that the process most likely frees up some of the buffer capacity that the BMS had removed from the usable battery capacity. Based on the reports of others and my own p...

Coolant Reservoirs on BMW i3 Rex

In the i3 owner's manual, it shows two coolant reservoirs in the frunk, one for the climate control system and one for the "drive." I presume the "drive" reservoir is not for the Rex engine coolant. Is the Rex coolant reservoir in the rear under the engine cover near the oil dipstick? Thanks for the...
