Re: End of production

I had an ICE and the i3...last fall, I sold the ICE and bought the X5 45e PHEV. Just looked at the status page this afternoon, and it says I'm averaging 66mpg...most of my driving with it is in EV mode. While it's much larger than the i3, I've also got a handicap tag, so parking isn't usually an iss...

Re: Welcome to the BMW i3 Forum

Batteries age by the number of recharge cycles, so, over the same miles, a smaller battery will need to be charged more often than a larger one. A charge cycle is 0-100%, so ten recharges from 90-100% is still one cycle. IOW, plugging it in when you get home doesn't really hurt versus waiting for th...

Re: Battery discharging while Stationary

When charging a lead acid battery, it can outgas hydrogen, which is highly flammable...best to vent it out and way from the enclosed spaces.

Re: Battery discharging while Stationary

FWIW, you can't maintain a battery trickle charge in most any BMW vehicle when using a 12v socket (i.e., cigarette socket), as those get disconnected when the vehicle goes to sleep. You need to connect the trickle charger directly to the battery or the provided terminals, on those that have them, an...

Re: Smog Check in California?

Over the next five years or so, I expect some places will start charging EVs a toll based on the miles driven to compensate for the 'lost' revenue they collect on the sale of gasoline. Most EVs are heavier than similar ICE vehicles, and that puts a bigger wear factor on the roads and bridges. You mi...

Re: Driving on Gas only.. Can I drive 200 miles

The vehicle is capable of setting the time via GPS, but it is not enabled in every market. YOu can set that up while coding, if it isn't, and I'm pretty sure it's an option in BimmerCode. My new X5 sets its internal clock automatically, or at least it switched itself to the proper DST when the chang...

Re: Driving on Gas only.. Can I drive 200 miles

The REx is somewhere between a 34-39Hp motor that is not directly connected to the drivetrain...it provides electricity to the motor or batteries, if there's excess being produced. At fairly normal speeds, that's enough power to maintain a decent cruise speed, but should you try to exceed that, you'...

Re: Level 3 charging past 80%

MOst places in the US charge by time rather than the energy put into the vehicle...so, since it slows down so much for that last little bit, it's often not cost effective to get to a full charge, but might be what you want, so you have to make the decision whether to continue to full or not.

Re: Set a maximum charge limit

If the vehicle is fully charged, with the latest software, it should unlock the charging plug from the socket. If the vehicle is locked while it's charging, and with older software, you can't remove the plug unless you unlock the i3 first. But, normally, when you want, just press the release button ...

Re: Easy Horn Swap

I've been lucky so far...seen a bunch of deer over the years, but have never hit one...came close to hitting an oryx once, though, on White Sands Missile Range in a rental car! Those things can weigh half a ton, so wouldn't be a good day! Lots of antelope running around the northern part of the rang...
