Re: Apple hires BMW i3 executive to develop apple car

I think it more likely that they are working on an 'Apple' self-driving platform. Kranz left his role at BMW to co-found self-driving startup Canoo. The Tesla execs Apple has been hiring are from the self-driving software development team. Think along with the Apple CarPlay module added to the car a...

Re: Odd Pump Noise

I get it that the compressor will fail for these 2014 models, but no one seems to say anything about the compressor needing replacement as well - removing that would knock off 1,000 from the bill. ... assume you mean "no one seems to say anything about the condenser needing replacement... Many AC t...

Re: Odd Pump Noise

My AC started making that same noise, I pointed it out to the dealer when I had the car in for the brake flush service, and they replaced the AC compressor - thankfully was about a month before the end of the warranty.

Re: Connected Services Ending - Offical

So i haven't seen an email, and I have a 2016 - do we know when the cutoff for this 3G issue is? (by that I mean which models/build dates)
I believe that BMW started putting 4G LTE in i3's in 2018. 2017 and older - 3G.

Re: Routine re-gas of aircon?

:D Yeah, definitely cross that Dealer off your list. Am willing to bet money that if you went along with their $600 AC recharge, it would have been what's known in the biz as 'sunshine service', ie - the Dealer takes in the car, parks it on the back lot in the sun for the day, then returns it to the...

Re: Routine re-gas of aircon?

Where would one find a copy of BMW's schedule of routine maintenance Car should have come with a Warranty and Maintenance booklet. Lists all the scheduled, and routine maintenance the Dealer does on around page 5. If the booklet is missing, it can be downloaded as a pdf from BMW. Recharging the AC ...

Re: Connected Services Ending - Offical

Some updated info. According to a telecom engineer, the 'new' ATT 4G modem for BMW is not compatible with the BMW NBT ID4 boxes in the older BMW i3's, so any upgrade would involve not only swapping out the ATT modem, but also upgrading/swapping out the NBT box - this would put the upgrade approachin...

Re: Upgrading from 2014 to 2017 model?

Check sites like CarGurus and TrueCar for the going sales prices for i3's in your area. Should at least give you fairly close ballpark guesstimates. How the chip shortage will impact the prices short or long term for the i3 is anybody's guess. BMW may have enough stock on hand, or have to limit prod...

Re: Evaporator sensor location and replacement

Okay, good. This side of the pond, any Dealer repairs are warrantied for two years - hopefully your dealer will take care of it all.
