Re: 14.4 kWh battery kappa max after 6 yr 9 months? [2014]

Assuming an efficiency of 4 mi/kWh at 65 mph, full range would be 57 miles. The average efficiency of our 2014 BEV is 5.2 mi/kWh, but that's in mostly suburban and urban driving at much slower speeds at 65º-90º. Our 2014 BEV is almost the same age as yours but has been driven less than 12k miles, pa...

Re: What model year did adaptive cruise control get better?

I test drove a 2018 model, at 3 or 4 following distance, following cars at 45mph to 0 at a stoplight, and while the car started slowing, it seemed to react really late. Not sure I'd trust it or if it's really usable. That seems like the behavior of ACC in our 2014 i3. However, I always have ACC on ...

Re: Importing EU i3 to US

1) The charge port on a European i3 would use a different connector ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_2_connector ) than all the charge points in the US ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAE_J1772 ). An option would be to buy a charge port adapter which would probably be much less expensive than r...

Re: What model year did adaptive cruise control get better?

The i3's ACC camera has 4 different parts numbers with the current version being installed since November, 2018, although the previous version was apparently installed through May, 2019 . I don't know whether the low-resolution (VGA) grayscale camera or ACC's software was improved over the years. Th...

Re: Greetings from the other side of a HV battery warranty replacement.

Is there a way to confirm the manufactory date of the pack? The new packs would certainly be more resilient but not sure if BMW would just install something from back when? I'm not aware of any way to determine when individual battery pack modules or the cells that they contain were manufactured. I...

Re: Greetings from the other side of a HV battery warranty replacement.

44mi÷3.8mi/kWh÷(1.0-0.03)÷18.1KWh=.6595 or 65.95% The nominal capacity is generally considered to be 18.8 kWh which would result in an even more compelling reason to pay for a capacity check: 63.49%. Anything below 65% would probably convince me to pay for the capacity check. Unfortunately, the cap...

Re: I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

Thanks for exposing BMW's dishonesty! As a fellow 2014 BEV owner, I don't value Internet connectivity enough to pay a BMW dealer to replace our 3G module with the 4G version. I could probably replace the module myself and might be able to figure out how to use ISTA+ to make it work, but the ~$600 co...

Re: Greetings from the other side of a HV battery warranty replacement.

Drive a significant distance without turning off the motor and record distance traveled, charge levels at start and end, and measured efficiency of that drive using iDrive. Then use the formula "distance_traveled÷efficiency÷(charge@start-charge@end)÷nominal_capacity" to get you a better approximati...

Re: Drivetrain Malfunction & no a/c...P0CE1 code

Despite the error code referring to "coolant control valve A" being stuck "on" my. local dealer is now telling me I need to replace compressor and other associated parts for $4800! Should I be suspicious? I would ask the dealer why they decided that the compressor and other associated parts needed ...
